Moving on from Cards/Flourishing

Postby rattlestar » Oct 22nd, '07, 06:24

I am a truly avid card magician and have improved a lot in terms of flourishing as well.
I have always wanted to move onto something new. Something to add to my 'archive'. I want to be able to perform on the spot when i dont have my deck of cards with me.

Ive experimented with coin magic early on, and most people say "people are afraid of doing coin magic" and in my case, I am a little. Its not what you think it is... in fact, the problem are the huge gaps between my fingers. (nooo im not an alien of some sort lol) they are just bigger than usual cause im a thin guy. For instance, I have trouble doing a card palm or back palm because the gaps between my fingers reveal the card. With that said. Any ideas?

Perhaps I should get into tricks such as "saw" by sean field. Im open to suggestions. Thanks guys

your fingers should not be a problem for the classic palm, thumb palm, heal clip or tenkie so you should have no real problem with most coin routines, if your realy woried try rope routines were long thin fingers are a bonus, itens like fiberoptics and ring on rope.

I've got thin fingers but haven't ever really found them to be a prolem. Alot of coin magic, like everything really depends on the performance and misdirection. I've got away with making some complete howlers of sleights by some simple misdiredtion and keeping the specs attention away from where I don't want it.

Mosrt sleights you should be fine with those, french drops, switches, palms, none of those you should have any trouble with.

if you dont believe us try it!
do the standard vanish to some people and then produce it from somewhere.
Just try that a few times and you will see that your confidence will grow and so will your skill with coins.
I used to be afraid of palming cards because my hand looked very unatural and a few bits of the card could be seen...(i still havent improved much)but ive found out its all about confidence and misdirection and around 5%skill.
My hand still looks slightly unnatural but around 99% of the times i perform it goes completly unoticed.
