reccomendations for cups + balls/ Chop cup.(dvd, book etc

Postby versace » Oct 30th, '07, 18:27

sorry to bother you all. Can anyone reccomend a dvd or book which i can purchase on the topics cups and balls and the chop cup.

I can do basic routines etc and would like tutorials and instructions on more advanced moves to extend my routine.

Also if it included tips on vanishing balls ( if you get what i mean) like with a chop cup you pretend to put the ball in your hand and blow in towards the cup and its under there. ( i know im a little vague but thats the best description i could think of, i dont know the correct name! :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Michael Ammar's two Cups and Balls DVDs are very comprehensive. I don't like Ammar's style, and often find him painful to watch, but the teaching is first-rate and the discs will give you enough to play with for quite a while.

Don Allen's Chop Cup booklet is good, but a little all-over-the-place in its presentation.

L&L have a Chop Cup DVD in their World's Greatest series. I just received it and haven't had the chance to watch it yet. I'll post a review when I have.

There's also the Greater Magic Teach-In Sessions DVD on the Classic Chop Cup. The quality of the DVD is variable, and while the content is generally good, I came away feeling like there must be an awful lot more to the chop cup than had been repesented here.

Hope that helps,

Pete

There's a great cups and balls routine, using two cups on David Williamson's "Sleight of Dave".

That last bit's something of a no-no in these parts. Books and DVDs aren't 'approved items' for sale here, as members could theoretically just learn the contents and sell them on - unlike props.

There's a lot out there about the chop cup in both written format and of course on DVD's.

The chop cup is a different commodity than cups and balls when it comes to routines and you may find that you have to buy twice to get both.

For the chop cup, I've studied lots of routines and I keep coming back to a variation on Martin Sanderson's first DVD, Corporate Close Up. In my opinion his rapid fire chop cup routine takes some beating and the variation on his second DVD, The Business isn't anywhere near as good. For variety and value it's hard to beat the The Chop Cup DVD that's part of the World's Greatest Magic series. Some of the routines are repetative and some go on too long in my opinion but you get a lot of ideas and variety from what are basically the same or very similar moves / misdirection.

As for Cups and Balls - look for searches with this in the title and also posts by The Mog as he's a bit of a Guru when it comes to Cups and Balls

Happy hunting

Does anyone know whether Paul Daniels has published, or made a DVD explaining, his rather excellent chop cup routine?

To my knowledge - he hasn't. However, if there is one place that wuld know the answer i suspect that it wouldbe the magic shop that was opened very recently by Paul which happens to be owned and run by his son.

See Magic Week for more detail.

Thanks! Would love to make it there sometime. Best chop cup routines I have seen is his and Tommy Wonder's one.
Gazzo's routine is pretty good but he is so obnoxious and rude that it puts me off.

If Gazzo talked to me like that in the street he would find his cups and indeed his balls, rammed where the sun don't shine. I'm suprised no one has belted him.

just as a quick aside you could also look into Larry Jennings Chop Cup routine which can be found in "Larry Jennings on coins and cards" , "the Classic Magic of Larry Jennings" books and one of his dvds which i cant remember offhand sorry
