An open letter to newbies and guests

Postby magicdiscoman » May 21st, '04, 22:34

This is to all newbies and thoughs people who have yet to post and are on the sidelines.

I too have been in your shoes looking on in wonderment at the frequency and the sheer skill that the members exchanged views and ideas with lightning ferocity, thinking I cant even type with one finger let alone express myself to thease people.
I meen that seige he posts yard long postings and seems to know everything in the entire world and that tom he has his own stuff for sale, he even has his own line of skin for crying out loud, this is exactly how i felt looking on in awe.

when i first decided to make a post it took me half an hour for a two line post and i awaited for a sevear tongue lashing from members and to be told not to involve myself you insignificant worm, like on some other sites.
I neither recieved a rebuke or a harsh inference but was helped along by the members eager to help me improve and I'm sure some of the members will atest to the fact that my posts needed an interpreter for some time till i found my feet.

thanks to the members here i have found new confidence and my writing and grammer have improved as has my social skills.
so whats my point, simple dont be afraid to post a reply don't just sit on the sidelines come and be a part of the comunity you too can go from one line half hour postings to large essays like me and we will be happy to help you on your way, go on give it a go you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

and now to fullfill my comitment to the forum a big hint.........

BIG HINT FOLLOWING:-
Age and Status in your Profile
To help other members form a more visual picture, it would be nice to include your age and 'magic status' as a small signoff in your profile.

We're standardising this to an additional bit of info in the Location panel in your profile... and the format is

(??A : ??S) where as the ??A = your age, and the ??S = your status, chosen from the list below...

EN = Eager Newbie
AH = Amateur Hobbyist
SH = Skilled Hobbyist
WP = Working Professional
CP = Career Professional

So, for example - your Location could be

"Kent, UK, (30:WP)", meaning you're a 30 year old working pro...

This is NOT obligatory, but may help during conversation!

Visting Professional Magicians - it would be much appreciated if you could please make yourselves known to one of the Moderators!
