Check this show out on Channel 4 on New Years Day. It's not conventional magic, but it is "tricks" rather than pompous mind-reading stuff.

As seen on Richard and Judy a few weeks ago, and as acclaimed by David Blaine when he was interviewed on the Jonathon Ross show.

I don't believe a word of it!

Derren Brown, just like Blaine, is a master at creating the illusion that there is more to his "Magic" than there really is.

It's all "tricks", although I would be the first to acknolwedge they are awsomely presented and thought through. Just keep in mind the miracle of video editing, then add in some neat props etc and you're getting there.

PS. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I am not doubting you that it is possible to learn how to establish when someone is lying, but a lot of his act uses props and camera editing to get the desired results and although I am happy to discuss these, since we are not in the Magician's Only section of this forum, this is probably not the best place to post details of how the tricks are performed.

Sorry, I meant no offence and would love to discuss the specifics of the techniques he used (since I only know a handful) in the Magicians Only section if you have access.

Regards... Tony

i agree Derren Brown is EXACTLY like Blaine. He got "frozen in ice" but this too was a stunt somethin to do with warm air, same as copperfield do u think he can really fly, just things like that.

i think uri geller is the same but im not sure on that one

Absolutely no problem Saxon. Personally I kind of think the heated debates on magic are more interesting than more passive discussions, especially when two people have opposing views.

Can you imagine though if Derren was reading these posts, knowing, just like Blaine, that the vast majority (or in my opinion all) of his "Magic" was just “Tricks”. If I was him, I would get a REAL kick out of people discussing whether his "Magic" was indeed really magic, or just beautifully orchestrated tricks.

BTW. I think it is worth going to the trouble of getting access to the Magician's Only section. Although the boards there have been a bit quiet of late, you can freely ask, and receive detailed information on all aspects of magic.

Just another quick thought...

Can you imagine Derren and Blaine down the pub together having a beer or three. God I would love to be a fly on the wall at that table!!!

"So David, were you really frozen in time, or did you just stand in a perspex telephone box with the heat piped in?"

"Well Derren, what I did was........."

".........oh yes and don't forget I shivered appropriately for the cameras before I was sealed inside my tomb"

... Tony
