saw a hustle on saturday...

Postby joecarr14 » Nov 11th, '07, 18:50

as i was walking back through manchester to the station, me and my friends came across an old mexican man....

he'd set up a card board box and three black foam disks, one with a white dot on.... and the object was to find the one with the white dot....

now it was obvious to work out who was in on the act as the other man was also (not being stereotypically racist) someone who seemed mexican and every time the old man turned his back the young guy 'playing' look under a disk and then bet £20 and won.... of course he then 'lost' then lost again nearly left and then won again.... anyway

this group of 'intellectualy (sp.) challenged' chavs came along to see what was going on....

i watched as one by one they lost around £100 each time getting more and more annoyed....

i watched the game intently and knew the move he was using.... (mods if this is exposure then im sorry but i dont want people to be scammed) it was to show the bottom disc of two in his hand then throw the top one.... and mix it up

now after me watching for 10 mins i was certain i could beat this guy and was going to play... but then as i watched and for what seemed like the 10th time i watched him i made the bet in my head and the chavs seemed to go for the same one... and when he turned it over to show no white dot i snapped out of the trance.... i knew that if i played, id get beat.....

anyway we saw some policemen coming up the road as we left and we turned round to see the old man pack up and leave.....

it was bizzare how this man stood blatantly on a sidewalk doing this hustle and people falling for it....

at least i didnt lose any money but im sure i could of won some....

oh well maybe next time

dont do it. Iv used this a lot to earn money in the last few years, and trust me - you never win. The only time you win is when the artist himself wants you to win...before persudaing you to bet the farm. Then you lose the farm.

If you bet on the correct disk, you would get out bid by the shill in the crowd. "Sorry mate - highest bet plays"

And do not ever accuse them of cheating...more often than not, they'll have some muscle.

By all means watch and enjoy, but never play...only suckers play...

but more importantly than anything else? Keep your mouth shut, and do not talk about the workings of the game unless out of earshot...and do not ever accuse them.

But yes - watch for entertainment - but dont play - you will lose

:)

I remember watching exactly the same game when I was on holiday. I was entranced and luckily I know never to bet on these kind of things... I just loved watching him doing the secret moves and whatnot.

I won't even stand and watch these people. They often work in gangs and accomplices will work the crowd, picking pockets as they go. These are professional con artists who are not in the business to lose money.

Can you tell I've been watching The Real Hustle?

yeah, I've seen stuff like this on Holiday, in Greece, the police seemed much less bothered over there than they would be here...or maybe the guy just saw them coming a mile off and never got caught.

The real Hustle, great show, not even classed as exposure, cos Paul just says : "I do a special move to move the pea around under whatever bottle top I want" and doesnt ever show any of his card moves - just uses them to show how a hustler could use these skills to earn SHEDLOADS of money

I think Paul does Fan-2-C from time to time, too. Quite impressive if you don't know the method (even if you do, it looks good).

In East Ham, close to where I live, there is a large amount of east Europeans performing Monte variations, I always am tempted to play as I know the secret, but there not stupid, they would notice me staring and change the tactics...just steer well clear. There are plenty of stories of people beating the system and winning lots of money, then to just be mugged straight after.

Oh! Someone who lives near me on this forum! Where abouts do you live? I live in Stratford, I haven't seen anyone else from near there on the forums before. Ahh now I feel like going down to East Ham to take a look, I've never ever seen a live street con going on!
