I have recently bought the trilogy dvd.

I ahve learnt a few tricks,
yet sadly I can't do any of the flourishes because my hands are too small to manuveur the cards round.


I'm stuck on one thing;
I want to learn the duck change,
but I can't find it on the dvd.

If someone could tell me where it is on the dvd it would be a great help.

The size of your hands really don't matter. Practice and practice correctly.

I'm 13 y'see.

And when I try and do the molecule cut where you have to swivel off a top deck then put it underneath your other hand,

I can't do that because I have to stretch my hands,
And it strains,
because i don't have enough handspace to have the bottom packet and top packet in the same hand.

And when I swivel the card like when you're displaying a card before the Jones Change,
The corner of the card hits my hand-
Because I've got small hands.

Then adapt the move to the size of your hands. I've been doing this longer then you have been alive. It constantly amazes me how many people think the size of their hands has anything to do with the ability to perform certain moves. It amazes them more when I show them how to achieve it and they do.

Rhid, how long have you been doing card magic? I ask because you mentioned that you are thirteen years old, so I assume you are fairly new to all this. Forgive me if I am wrong.

If, however, my assumption is correct then why have you purchased The Trilogy DVDs? I would say this is for intermediate to advanced card magicians - those who have already learned the basics and are comfortable enough to move on to more advanced stuff. Once you have mastered the basics, I think this will give you the skills required to learn the more advanced material on the Trilogy DVD set. You will also have the confidence to adapt certain sleights and moves to fit in with your hand size. I, too, believe that hand size is not an insurmountable obstacle when learning magic. Hope this helps.

I have been doing magic since I was 6 odd,
And I have mastered the basics, etc.


But if I 'adapt' the molecule cut for example,
to my hand size,

Then it won't be the molecule cut,
It will be a completely different trick!

My last post on the subject. And I will wait for the cheering to go down before I continue.

The molecule cut relies on pivot points and momentum. Utalizing these factors I can use the momentum to push the cards from one point to the other. Hand size really does not come into play. My hands are probably average. I can almost palm a poker size card without leaving any nasty edges poking out...almost. But it has never been an issue. And I was confident that hand size would not be a factor, but to be sure I went and did some research on the move. And I was correct in my assumption.

And in the hour or so I've been playing with it, I have managed to modify it to my own style without changing the look of the cut. And this move really is not necessary to any effect. Fun to do but not necessary.
