I've got a fair few that turned up in a draw when I was clearing out the missis' grandmother's house. As yet I've not found anything I really like to do with them but they're pretty cool, all from hotels and restaurants etc and probably up to 30 years old, they still work though.

I'm loathe to get rid of them as they could one day be exactly what I need but if you can come up with a good reason I might pop them in the post....

Are you a hobbyist or working professional? The reason I ask is as a professional go to a restaurant, pub, or casino and ask the manager if they would like to sponsor your show by providing a box of matchbooks with their logo on them to use in match tricks....the box is very minimal cost to them, and you usually will see their eyebrows go up when you mention that you either a) try to fit a patter around them b) give the match pack to the spec as a souvenir when done.....

You will find getting match books - or boxes for that matter - quite easy

The only problem is that matchbooks seem pretty common in North America and in fact Europe, but us Brits get lumbered with boxes. Dunno why but it's a bummer.

Matchbooks in the UK are generally about promotional stuff so perhaps find a promo company that can make em up for ya!!

Minimum order there is 10,000 but you can now narrow your search criteria to matchbooks promotional uk

Hey guys,

Many thanks for the replies - I'm tempted to look into getting my own custom printed, but was looking for 100/200 ish first to actually try out the effects with them, before I order 1000's.

For those with access to matchbooks, I was going to try out Acer's Torn and Restored Matchbook, The Razor Burn effect from Underground Jam (Sankey) and finally a routine from Simply Harkey.

Thanks for the suggestion moodini - that[s a great idea. It really is a case of finding a place in the UK that has them though... I tend to find matchboxes as opposed to books, which is no good with regard to the effects above.

Oh well, fingers crossed!

Liam.

You can get personalised matchbooks here:

I have a bowlful left behind by my mother, who collected them, but I'm unlikely to use them - mainly because they aren't a common item any more in the UK.
