Refresher on the forum rules

Postby moodini » Nov 18th, '07, 20:37

Let us refresh ourselves of the forum rules and etiquette as they outlined - specifically those that apply to some of the behaviour that is beginning to get tiresome....this is not intended to upset the mods or belittle the work they do as their job is endless and they do it well.

The following is quoted from the forum rules page:

My note - I think you will notice that not one single rule states anything about "English as a first languate is a requirement"

To ensure the enjoyment of all TalkMagic members, please follow these basic, common sense rules:

1. No abuse of any kind will be tolerated.

5. No swearing, racism, sexism, pornography or bigotry of any kind will be tolerated.

7. Anyone ignoring the above rules will be banned without notice.

8. Where possible please try to avoid over using "Text Speak" (I.e. txtspk) in any messages posted. It would also be appreciated if messages are checked for grammar, spelling and typos. It is accepted that from time to time bad spelling, grammar and typos will occur, however the over abundance of these mistakes in a message will make it difficult for others to read and comprehend. (My note...emphasis on the "Where possible")
12. As a member, you are asked to refrain from any form of belittling, deflammatory, hostile or punishing remarks towards new members. Authority at TM is in the hands of the moderators, not the forum members. If you believe you have been treated unfairly, or have reason to believe that comments aimed at you by a forum member are unjust or accusatory, please contact a moderator via private message.

Some of my own thoughts:
What happens in PM is a "Private message" and if you are not comfortable with what you are recieving then bring it to mod attention...don't drag it into the public forum.

It doesn't prove anything in regards to who provoked who - it only proves that someone (maybe both parties) are not aware of the etiquette and rule protocol as listed in the information at the top of the page....two wrongs do not make a right and who slapped who first IS important especially when someone is unable to defend themselves due to issues with command of the language....which as I stated above is not a requirement of our forum

I am delighted to see that moodini has been promoted to moderator and I congratulate him. No doubt he is also a member of his neighbourhood watch committee.

Yes, all very righteous and full of himself.

It also says, if you read the rules, that text talk is not tolerated and translating the coded speak of the youth is tiresome.
This is one forum where the majority of the posters speak proper English which is one of the reason why I frequent it most.

The person you are referring to can speak proper English, as in abusive words, when he likes and bringing a PM out in the open is maybe the way to let people like Moodini who are blinded by politically correct knee-jerk reactions see the full story.

The first port of call with any questions or queries of this nature should be a moderator.

However, as far as I am aware, nobody has made any moderators aware of private messages or discussions pertaining to the subject(s) above.

These cryptic, vigilante-esque messages serve no purpose, as ultimately they will only add fuel to an already volatile fire, and they hold no weight of authority whatsoever.

You see, TalkMagic is an old community. It's been around a lot longer than most internet magic forums, and certainly has existed for a lot longer than many of the GUESTS here have been dabbling in magic.

We would therefore ask you ALL for the common courtesy of wiping your feet before entering, leaving any misgivings behind, and respecting both your hosts, other members, and the forum admin.

If these criteria are something you cannot abide by, please, leave quietly via the nearest exit without making a fuss.

It is not a nice thing for the admin to have to usher people off the premises, but it does happen. And no, that's not a threat, it's simply a systematic route that we follow to try and keep the TM community alive.

I would appreciate that anyone who can explain the meanings, depths and insinuations in this thread to contact an moderator/administrator, as I feel there's a bit of clearing up to do here.
