The sad thing about programmes like Buffy (a show about a schoolgirl who fights vampires - really deep!) is the strange sort of people it attracts.
I once had the misfortune to be invited to a meal at a restaurant once where a friend of mine had invited some friends of hers who were the sort of friendless goons who collect Magic: The Gathering cards and watch too much Star Trek. They spent the whole evening discussing the ins and outs of Buffy as if IT WERE REAL! They were arguing over which weapon does what and which powers does this and so forth.
It is, after all, a childrens programme and they don't even mention it these days. It's all Lost and Heroes, the latest badly acted, plastic confectionary from across the pond.

I'm sure if Teletubbies was American and fashionable, single males would have been discussing how Tinky Winky's Tardis-like handbag worked.

And there we have it. No attempt to engage with the points I put forward, rather 'argue' ad hominem and make yet further generalisations.

I'm a huge Buffy fan. To say that Buffy was about a teenage girl who fights vampires is like saying Liverpool are a football club or that Romeo & Juliet is a love story. It's like saying Frank Sinatra was a singer.

Buffy was original, intelligent, funny, and poignant TV series I've had the pleasure of obsessing over. Yes, even more original, intelligent, funny and poignant than Terry & June. Plot lines were introduced 2 series before they reached fruition. There were genuinely funny episodes, very sad episodes, and some darned spooky episodes. Heck, there was even a musical - and a wonderful musical it was too (and being an all-round entertainer I'm sure Lord Freddie can appreciate a song & dance routine).

Trouble is, people who never saw Buffy will assume that it's akin to Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Assuming is always a silly thing to do.

There, I've said my bit. I have defended the honour of the wonderous Buffy. My work here is done.

I'm sure you two fellas watch it with a box of tissues by your side. And that's not because it's weepy.

Don't be ashamed, I used to do the same thing over Mildred Roper.

I can't stand Lost and can't say I'm fanatical about any programme.

If you can please show me where I'm being petty and personally attacking you (what have your last two posts been but personal attacks by the way, dodging the valid questions I made, and quiet reasonably as well?) I'd appreciate it.

Calling you a bigot is not petty. It's consistent with the attitude you constantly adopt in most of your posts.

Well, referring to my web page is petty as it's nothing to do with the matter. At least I have the nerve to put a link there!

The posts were about general Buffy fans I have met and how they are so sucked into a bubble that they think it's real and take it far too seriously. You are not referred to if you re-read it. I don't know you.

But when people are that obsessed with something that's make believe (as the people I had the misfortune to spend an evening with were) it send out shock waves and I think of Charles Manson listening to The White Album.

It's weird.

In which case Freddie there have been some crossed wires - I deleted those comments before you even had chance to reply because, as you say, they were not relevant.

And, for the record - I don't have a website.

Edit: to clarify: my subsequent comments followed because I could not understand why you would make a such a post about a show I said I enjoyed watching if not to try and belittle me and, by implication, the points that I was making...

Thanks, I think it's a case of misunderstandings here!

I did not know that you watched this. As far as I can tell, mine is the first mention of it on this thread and wasn't directed at anyone in particular.
Well, it was directed at the idiots whose company I had to endure one evening as they bored me senseless!
