DL all gaffed up :(

Postby Palmer Eldritch » Nov 25th, '07, 09:16

Considering I've not been practicing too long, I'd say I'm pretty good at that staple of many a trick - the ubiquitous DL.
However, the problem arises when I try to perform a DL when using a double thickness gaff card (in this instance a cigarette through card gaff). I'm finding it very difficult to DL with that thing.

I'm well aware that with most of these things, it is simply a case of practice, practice and some more practice, but I was wondering if there is a particular DL method best suited to thicker gaff cards.

Thanks for any advice in advance,

P. Eldritch

maybe try a one handed get ready, hold a break, and then go for the lift?

I havnt used double gaff cards in a while, but that has always worked regardless of what I've had, really

Personally, I'd go with Beardy's method too. Or perhaps use a thumb count, holding the break with your thumb, then pivoting the card(s) between your thumb and index finger. If this isn't quite clear enough, then please pm me.

I've been using a method where I hold the deck squared and then use my index finger to push the cards from the far outer corner.

---------
\______\ making them into a shape like this.

Then I peel two cards, sort of pivoting them on the tip of my index finger.
Sorry I know that's a horrible explanation - I think I got the method from a Jeff Mc'Bride DVD if that helps.

I think I know what you guys mean, although I'm not too sure of some of the terminology.
I guess I could make a break under the guise of squaring the deck (perhaps while the victim is signing the card). But that would still leave me with the problem of how to DL back again in order to hand them the signed card at the end.
Tbh my head feels like it's been hit repeatedly with a gold brick wrapped in a damp towel today, so it's quite possible that I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. I've been trying to decipher the method described in the royal road but it's just not making sense to me right now - I think I'll go have a cat nap :?
