i thought it was better than average, but its a shame it copped out in the end with a typical schmaltzy finish...6.5 outta 10 for me....

(Cramped seats, dimwit cabin crew and having to turn around 2 hours into the flight because someone was ill were the negatives).

Had to do that flying out of Dallas once. What a pain, though not as much pain as the heart attack victim was in.

Has anyone caught all the background cameos in the film? I spotted Ali Bongo and Laura London immediately.

My favourite line was about the 1980's style "robot" magician. "He's been the future of magic for the past 20 years..."

Wasn't a bad film, I agree with the general critic review that is wasn't as good as peep show but there we go!

Prefer the Prestige, although lacks the whole comedy thing...

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

Got this fellah for crimblymas and have to say although it wasn't rip roaringly funny, I really enjoyed it. Lots of in-jokes and it was good to see so many familiar faces from the world of magic making guest appearances.

Picked this up for £2 in the bargain bin at Morrisons. Enjoyed it.

Webb out of Mitchell & Webb is still one of the most wooden actors I have ever seen in my life but even he doesn't manage to spoil it.

I watched this last night. It was OK... a decent enought movie for a night in with a couple of beers (and a home made curry!) I made me laugh in all the right places...

But the Mrs wasn't due home till after 11, so, although I don't usually bother with all the extras, I watched the "Making of"

And this is why I'm ressurecting this old thread.

It has to be said that I may be a little sensitive about this, and I'm certainly over protective of our lovely magical community... but during the Making Of, they talk about magicians in what seems to me to be a not very nice way.

Certainly far to many geek comments.

What miffed me far more though was them talking about how "magic allows people with absolutly no charisma to go up on stage"

And as for the bit about "Amature magicians and their bad tricks,"...

It just felt to me like they'd breezed into our world, looked down on it feeling all superior, and then left with absolutely no respect for it all!

So I took about 20 minutes of the making of... and switched it off. (I say this just incase they later talk about how much they love and respect magicians and completely redeem themselves!)

I know that we can't all be Max Maven or Derren Brown, but everyone has to start somewhere... and really, I'm sure there's many singers/comedians/etc with far less talent and charisma out there...

I still quite like the movie, but this did leave something of a sour after taste...

Unfortunately they are right. Many magicians use the tricks as a crutch and would not be able to entertain without the tricks. We all know, if we are honest, that several professional magicians have no business being in entertainment. And magic is full of geeks. It is why many of us avoid clubs. It is a shame to see magic being spoke of disparagingly, but we have brought it upon ourselves.
