Dear LeftEye,

I offer you reviews/comments from John Guastaferro & Paul Hallas:

"Thank you for your wonderful book, Cardistry. I'm enjoying it a great deal. I love your take on Ouroboros." - JOHN GUASTAFERRO

"Paul Gordon's "Cardistry" is an enjoyable read with some neat routines and is worth a look. I have to say (my favourites are) Shocked Aces Plus, We're In The Money, Discombobulated and Most Amazing. To be actually using four items from one book is pretty good for me. So yes, I haven't bought and read many books this year, (or published any) but "Cardistry" should certainly be included in the nominations (of best book)." - PAUL HALLAS

Nice comments but what was really being asked for was a proper Review of the item, the contents, the ease of use and overall impressions as to how good it is - that kind of thing. Any offers?

You know something... I never trust a man who offers the praise of others as testimony for their own work.

Sorry if that sounds out of place, but Paul's post above would be the sort of thing I'd expect to see in the Magic Cafe.

Dear Seige,

You said, "I never trust a man who offers the praise of others as testimony for their own work."

Isn't it better to offer other other people's praise than offer my own!?

I am so glad you replied, as you've confirmed my point exactly.

Let's just say, would you have offered 'negative' reviews ?

Thought not. Which proves my point... these are hand-picked which are in agreement with your own opinion.

These aren't reviews—which is what was requested. These are self-promotion.

Well, they aren't my own words! They are the words of two highly-respected magicians; John Guastaferro & Paul Hallas. See my website for more!

And, you won't find many publishers who would advertise a negative review of one of their own products. Why would they?

Your posting makes little sense...it really doesn't...

By the way, 50% off all profits (as stated in the book) of CARDISTRY will be going to my late card-magician friend Jack Parker's cancer charity.

The above sentance IS promotion, but a darned worthy one!

I know you're trying to boost sales Paul, but the original question was asking for a REVIEW... and NOT a hand-picked set of positive comments from the author!

One thing we ask for in the TalkMagic terms and conditions/rules is that there be no blatant self-promotion or advertising by non-advertising members.

Enough said?

Now, before you comment again...

Does anyone have a *REVIEW* of this material????

What on earth are you talking about!? They are NOT words from the author (i.e., me). They are words from John Guastaferro & Paul Hallas!

Paul

With all respect, are you being purposely dense?

The AUTHOR (i.e. YOURSELF) has HAND PICKED some comments, i.e. the ones you mentioned.

I never implied they were your own comments.

And the AUTHOR also supplying a HAND PICKED review is also self-promotion, in reference to your Magic

Give it a rest, would you? Let people make their own minds up. Do you not find it fascinating that the MagicBunny thread took a similar route to this one?

Only rearing your head every time your stuff is mentioned isn't really part of the community spirit here at TalkMagic.

I've decided to split this away from the original review request, as it's really bringing nothing to the party whatsoever. Except let people form a negative opinion of Paul Gordon, which we really don't want, do we?

Thank you Paul Gordon for posting those comments about your book. I understand that they were made by other people as they are the ones on your website aswell.

The only reason I asked for a review is because I trust a lot of the members of TM and if I ever wanted to make a purchase of something, I would always come here to look for a review... and so far they havn't let me down!

I was looking for some more opinions seeing as I've only heard the things said on your website. If you're interested, the book is near the top of a long list of wishes

Thanks again.
