The Raven

Postby MagicIain » Apr 21st, '04, 20:41

Limitations? (I figure with the 'deluxe kit' it comes with US coins)
Spectator reactions?
Accessories?
Worth buying?

I want it all.
I want it all.
I want it all.
And I want it now.
(Queen, 'Miracle' album, 1989)

Pondering over whether to get this at emagic's special price. Any help out there? Link here to current emagic prices

Try doing a search for raven on the forum, there have been many informative discussions which may be of help, there is also at least one review, possibly more. Hope this helps.

I can't help you with the price but I can with the other things:
The spectator reactions vary - a lot of people have seen those 'magic exposed' programs that always show how the raven works, so be careful who you show it to. Everyone else is amazed, but they usually do come away with a suspicion that magnets were used. To get the best reaction, don't use the american coins, but get a pound coin shell and stick another coin under it, so it will look like the coin changes. If you just vanish the coin, the spectator might feel this happening and this will ruin the effect. There are now quite a few accessories: most of them are different types of coin shells, like the one pound one. Limitations - after a while, my Raven began to make whirring noises that gave the game away and the magnet's sound proofing covering began to wear thin, making more noise on the pick-up of the coin
Is it worth buying? Well, if you like doing street/ close-up magic, buy it now, but otherwise, think about whether you want to buy this or another, more visual type of ITR. ''No strings attached'' might suit the stage magician more, as the angles for the raven are limited and certainly don't include an audience looking up towards you.

... the Raven has lots to offer and I do own and use one myself. But I would recommend that you learn the basic coin sleights as well. Ammar's Intro to Coin Magic would serve you well.

Hope this helps

remember you can use your raven to produce a card, coin or folding money as well as vanish / change them, definately get the raven vid it will open up possibilities you may not have thought of both with fixing and presentation.

and since we have just blown the whole effect, i personaly would not recomend th real raven over the classic because you dont need the reel part if you use your raven properly.
as far as raven 2 cant help havent got one.
