Good advice would be to buy the effect and work at it until you feel happy about doing it but having done that you'll still only have that one trick and it can't be done very often for various reasons. Better advice would be to check out the Reviews here on Books and other printed formats, specifically Mark Wilson and other books of general magic because for about the same amount of money you'll know how to do dozens, if not hundreds, of different ticks. That'll impress friends far more than you can even imagine. As the Festive and gift giving season is close, it might be an idea to drop a few hints to anyone looking to buy you something that you'd be happy with one or more of these items  . Best of luck!

There's so many options open, so let's discuss...

1. You could leech the secret from the internet
The advantages are, it costs you nothing except time. The disadvantages are, you will learn it wrongly, being taught by idiots on YouTube or other exposure sites, and it will never look as good as by learning from the official manuscripts.

2. You could pirate it from a filesharing site
The advantages are that you get the real thing. The disadvantages are dishonesty, potential jail term and fines. Not a really good idea for something that costs less than a video console game.

3. Buy the original
See points 1 and 2 for the reasoning.

Also, please consider that effects such as this look ridiculous in the hands of a self-confessed 'noob'. Magic isn't something that anyone can just 'do and be cool'. Chances are, without the proper dedication, subtelties, perfomance and acting skills, this will go wrong and leave you looking like an idiot.

Magic involves a lot of skill, dedication and motive. If you motives are as shallow as impressing your parents or impressing your friends, then frankly you shouldn't be considering magic at all. It's not about 'impressing people'. Magic is personal, flamboyant and most of all it's entertainment.

I do wish people would stop asking for a quick cheap thrill, and leave magic alone.
