Season's Greetings to All

Postby Thames Iron » Dec 6th, '07, 22:54

Hi to all at Talkmagic.

I’ve been lurking for some time, both here and on MagicCafe. Mine is a revival of interest in magic from the time when I was a youngster. I have become interested again in a sort of weird way. Now I wouldn’t blame you in the slightest for switching off right now, as the last time I told a fellow magician (a dove magician) of my circuitous route back, I saw his eyes glazing over and a pleading look of “Please kill me now” in his face.

Essentially my interest has been primarily Mentalism. This has been driven by a number of factors – TV (if you ask any member of the public in UK/Ireland to name a magician, they will say Derren Brown, Keith Barry. Hence the modern preoccupation with Mentalism. Maybe Paul Daniels or Tommy Cooper, depending on the age of the person. Magicians who appear on or have had series on TV. In the States, it’s Chris Angel, Sigfreid/Roy, Geller (?) People with an interest in the art obviously know of a lot more well capable performers. I also have had an interest in mass deception/spin/propaganda and NLP, which tends to be a convenient obscure explanation for many mentalists when their methods are queried.

Now my interest has broadened to include more areas of magic, kids, comedy and cards. This is a vast art and I do not expect to ever graduate beyond the Apprentice level. I do hope to enjoy the learning process in this journey.

Hello and welcome. I think you might find that most dove workers have that look. It is pretty much the same look the doves have.
