Thanks to this week's Magic week ( http://www.magicweek.co.uk/ ) and Reuters News agency:
Stuntman Blaine to hang from hook in Times Square
Fri Nov 17, 2006 2:38pm ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - In his latest stunt, U.S. magician David Blaine will be shackled to a spinning gyroscope hanging some three stories above Times Square as he tries to escape before a three day deadline.

The 33-year-old, whose previous stunts include 61 hours encased in a block of ice and one week buried in a coffin, will be hoisted 40 feet above the ground just off New York's Times Square on Tuesday.

Blaine will be secured in a three-ringed gyroscope spinning continuously in all directions and retailer Target Corp. has challenged the magician to escape from his position by 5 a.m. (1000 GMT) Friday.

"There will be no barriers to protect him from elements like wind, rain, snow or freezing temperatures," Target said.

If he succeeds, Blaine will then accompany 100 families chosen by The Salvation Army on a shopping spree at Target. The department store said it will give each family a $500 giftcard if Blaine completes the challenge.

Other stunts Blaine has done include a week living underwater in a clear sphere and 44 days in a box suspended over the River Thames in London.

"This is my chance to give back to The Salvation Army and to benefit other families," Blaine said in a statement. "It's my goal not only to successfully complete this challenge, but to help give others an extraordinary holiday season."

Note he's now described as 'stuntman' in the headline rather than magician - that bit comes later:wink: !

Saw a bit of this earlier on telly, definitely a bit of a change from the usual in that he's actually trying to get out rather than sit there like a twerp. Definitely not my cuppa either, I'd be chucking up left right and centre.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

I saw this in the Metro this morning, and they actually referred to him as a magician rather than a stuntman ;)

It's nice to see such a famous magician doing a stunt for others as well. I'm positive that there have been many others before, but this is the first that I have personally seen.

Good luck to him, I suppose it can only further his career.

if he's sincere why doesnt he double those gift vouchers rather than ride the wave of publicity?

The press he'll get will be far more valuable than the actual physical money given to those people...

hmmm...i enjoy the odd cynicism...

Next! David Blaine watches paint dry....yawn.

These e-loving street magicians may mock the likes of Siegfried & Roy, etc but they can put on shows on a large scale whereas Blaine to too well-know to do his street magic now and he doesn't have the charisma to put on a good live show.

These 'stunts' are dull and nowhere near as thrilling as the things Houdini did.

I just want this continued publicity to result in an awesome magic world tour or TV series. He's clearly got talent, he can do magic and he's an excellent self-promoter - I want to see more magic from Blaine. Even if it's in his monotone voice with over-excited spectators - at least it's HIS monotone voice (and maybe HIS spectators, but that's just speculation...).

He can put on a show and I want to see one.

I must say, some feats that have come from Blaine are quite amazing, it really is a different form of entertainment.

While he may not be boring the most of us, I still think one day he should stop digging this hole of feats.
Sure he has done the prep into some events, but he might no suceed one day, and still continues to talk rubbish about him being invincible and training for stunts like this.

All I want to know, is what happened to the "Dive of Death" stunt he planned a while ago.
