Making Magic Tricks

Postby smokin_doritos » Dec 11th, '07, 05:39

I live in an area where there are no magic shops and to order online I have to spend more money in shipping than the actual trick or gimmick costs. This is where the title of the topic comes in. Does anyone have any suggestions on tricks or gimmicks or props that can be hand made. Nothing really complicated but some simple stuff. I want to do a show for my family but don't really have anything but some cards and RRTCM. Maybe that is all I do for now but I think it would be really fun to make your own gimmicks. I think it would bring more value to them because you made them with your own two hands. That being said I am sure that some of you have made your own tricks. I was just wondering if anyone could explain how to do so. Maybe PM me with some instructions. I am still really new to magic so I am just looking for some simple stuff to entertain my family with.

Do a search on this forum for the reasons why you can't go wrong buying Mark Wilsons Complete Corse In Magic.
Apart from everything else you can learn from it, there are these props that are in his Make At Home section:

Vase of Allah
The Afghan Bands
The Utility Cone
The Sorcerer's Stamp
Cut and restored Rope
Confetti to Candy (3 versions)
Vanishing bowl of Water.

These are just a few of the items in just this section, which has about 43 pages. Most of the rest of the book uses cards, coins, silks or handkerchiefs, rope, or stationary products. There isn't much you need to pay out for. You may need to pay to have the book shipped, but it will save a fortune on having seperate props shipped across.

Hope this helps.

EDIT.

You will find a review I did here: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic12113.php

There are others, so it might be worth reading them also.

Yeah that helps a lot!! Thanks. I might be able to save on shipping because my sister is coming to visit for christmas. Maybe I could have her pick it up or have it shipped to her house. Thanks a lot.
