Romantic Magic

Postby mallmagician » Dec 11th, '07, 09:02

Hi,

Thought I would start a thread to see what magic people like doing for their loved ones (Husbands/Wives/Boyfriends/Girlfriends). Or what they like to do to impress that one you want!!

I currently live in Thailand, have done for 2 years, so it would be good to see some ideas for effects that do not require IMPORTANT patter.

Any Ideas folks?

I can't imagine an effect that would have more impact than doing the washing and ironing

Yes, I liked the Ring to Rose that Mr Copperfield did on that old show. The problem is, the only version I can find for sale, is one with a rose shaped ring box. Not authentic looking. Looks too much like a prop for me.

Hmmm, The washing and ironing. I'm lucky as I live in Thailand, so my Laundry gets picked up twice weekly, and gets brought back, wahed, dried, and ironed. 2 peoples clothes all for £2 a week! :D

Any other tricks folks? I like a trick called Red Hot Mama (I think thats what its called), where the spectator blows a kiss to the deck, and their card changes to a red back ( rest of the deck is blue), this is repeated, and their original red card, changes into the second choice. The blowing the kiss to the deck is cute, and you can get some mileage from this with the ladies.

I'd like something better though. :) Ideas?

Thanks

On the Derren Brown front I like to perform the effect on disc two of D.P.B ( I think it's extreme mental effort) where one person picks a card and returns it to the pack then as the other person deals the pack out card by card I divine what their picked card was and as I do so I ask the person dealing to stop and they stop on the picked card.... Hope that makes sense.
Anyway I find this a great effect to perform for couples as I tend to use a 'people with an intimate connection' type patter.

I've got a couple that I use when performing for a couple, my Days of our Lives trick, where two seperate cards, one signed by each person merge into one card with a nicle little story about how they met, fell in love and are now two halves of the same person.

I've also go a nice little effect I call Jack Sparrow's Compass, where a compass point towards what your heart truely desires, have a look in Karl Fulves Mental Magic for how that one works. :D

I find that palm reading can be extremely romantic and/or flirtatious depending on hiw you "handle" (boom boom) the reading. Any way you look at it, it's an intimate experience.

I have read and re-read Karl Fulves and thought that this idea would make a good effect if only there was an idea in my head to use it.

Jack Sparrows compass! Thats it. Thank you Lady of Mystery

I've always been a fan of Kevin James' Floating Rose.

If you want to put a spin on the 'romantic' take, have a squiz at 'Divided by Hate' from Luke Jermay's Building Blocks. Persuasion is used to make a rose appear to slowly wilter and rot in front of the spectator's eyes.

Sponge genitals. Always works a treat. When they think you have put a sponge ball in their hand and they open it to reveal sponge genitalia you can cheekily wink and say "You can have a real one later on - if you play your cards right!"
Works every time.
