Hey

Hey everyone,

I'm from the states, but I thought talkmagic looked like the nicest community to join.
I'm only a month or two into magic, and other than a few billiard slights from "now you see it, now you don't," I only seriously started learning magic maybe three or four weeks ago (I.E. I got RRTCM that long ago)
My magic shop is less then helpful when it comes to advice: I went in to buy a pack of bikes and they tried to sell me a set of DVDs to go with it.

Anyway, hello, you'll most likely see me posting in the Support&Tips section soon.

EDIT: I have a few questions (requests of a comparison between Tarbell and Wilson as well as which magic theory books to start with.) Should I ask these questions here, in the Review request section, Support&Tips or somewhere else?

That's sweet. Thank you.

RRTCM and the Bill Tarr books are excellent places to start.

Bless them. There are some good dvds about though, although my personal preference is for books. There are some lengthy debates here on which is the best way to learn. The bottom line is I guess it's down to the individual (although books are actually best).

Looking forward to it.

Support and Tips sounds a good place to ask such questions, but in summary, both Tarbell and Wilson are excellent books. I would say that Wilson is like a concise Tarbell - but it has some excellent illustrations that can make things easier. Both sets of books are great for any magic library - but especially if you are just starting out.

Hi and welcome to TM  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

While I usually find myself agreeing with Lady Of Mystery, but I have to disagree on this one. I think the best way to start or start more perhaps in your case is Mark Wilson's course in magic. I too like Books rather the DVD's but its up to the individual, (books are better) Bill Tarr's books are also excellent.

Too bad about the magic shop though. I am almost afraid to ask the name of it. Although depending on what advice you were seeking, maybe them trying to sell you a dvd was good advice.

welcome to TM

Im a "seattleite" as we call ourselves.

The magic shop I speak of claims to be the only magic shop in the area and I have found no evidence to the contrary. My problem is that any question I ask normally is only responded to with about two or three sentences, and at least one of them is almost always an advertisement for a dvd they are selling (I was told that they best/only way to learn billiard magic was though the Mcbride DVDs.)

I had fun with the billiard effects in NYSINYD but grew out of it pretty quickly, couldn't find any books that could take me further, then found a beginners series podcast that walked you though RRTCM.

Anyways, thanks for the responses.
