Things not to do with a dove pan

Postby taneous » May 24th, '04, 11:03

My dove pan routine at the moment is something like this. I say "Let's make some marshmallows" I show them my dove pan empty etc. They say a magic word and I open it and there's a guinae pig inside. I look all shocked and say "but that's not a marshmallow". I put the guinae pig away and we start again (I have a double load dove pan). Next time we're succesful and it's full of marshmallows, which i throw into the air and the kids all dive for them etc.
However at a party this weekend one of the mum's freaked a little and told the kids "No don't eat them, they've just been where the guinae pig was. To top it, I had just done the comedy funnel and I had spilled some of the water on to the floor on purpose (it was my daughter's birthday and at my house - so it was ok to do this) - but the mother thought the guinae pig had let loose on the floor. - all very grim, I know.
Fortunately I know the mother and I explained during the show that it is all hygenic etc. and at the end of the show I explained to her that it is two seperate containers (without giving too much away).

Any way - I decided to change this effect a bit because I hadn't really thought of what people would think - and it probably isn't as hygenic as I would like to imagine cos the guinae pig has contact with the top of the pan..

Any of you had any similar 'incidents'?

LOL
What a lovely tale:)

The only thing I can almost equate this to is a trick I once did as an impromptu routine, which was to palm one of those candy cigarettes and use a TT to vanish a real, lit cigarettes. Of course, I proceeded to eat the candy one, for which I got told off by my mate cos he thought it was irresponsible to do such a think in front of his kids LOL.

well there was the time when i produced a dead dove and said its only sleeping lets not wake her......
then there was the time when i wanted to invert a milky die box on a kids head and she ran from the room screaming, thats why i do a trick beforehand to guage reactions.

 I once tipped a cup full of slushed water onto a kids head - I hadn't put in enough powder

Yes, slcush powder - it says that the liquid turns to gel in an instant, but you actually have to wait about 5 seconds. I find that it's always best to use a lot of the stuff to get the trick to work.
Also, it's quite useful for containing spills and stopping leaks :)
As for embarrassing moments, the first time I did the vanishing and reappearing water in newspaper routine, I managed to get the water to 'vanish', but when I truned it upside down to prove it (as the gimmick is supposed to let you do this), half the water spilled out
I've learnt not to turn the newspaper upside down so quickly.
