I think gambling makes card tricks more interesting, as it adds romance and danger to cards in the mind. Everybody would love to be able to cheat unnoticed at cards even if they would not do it. I do not think that specific gambling routines are good as you need to know the rules of that particular gambling game to follow some of the tricks.
I do follow a gambling line with patter on some of my tricks, but I do try to make these tricks not follow any specific gambling games rules.

i think gambling routines can be a thing of beauty when done well, especially when the emphasis is taken off of slight of hand. its more of a demonstration, kind of like a mentalist showing his skills for controlling other people's minds. its not as commercial, but it definetely has its place in magic.
