Dr.Magic is in the building

Postby zoomb » Dec 30th, '07, 19:35

I'm finally 13 like a week ago and I'm a young magician. I have peformed several times to live audiences and I prefer doing close up magic. I am a fan of Marvin Berglas and David blaine. I started magic at 5 yrs old up to now. I've bought over 2,000 tricksfrom excecutive magic to single tricks like the IT.
I have joined, because mainly I want to learn more about my preperation and the shows schedule. Plus I want to see tricks that are worth buying and not.

Thanku for reading and if i do drop a comment or reply to a comment pease could u reply back. Thanx :) :)

Welcome to the forum. You said that the Dr. is in the building, do you perform as a Dr.? I am a M.D. ( Magic Doctor) and perform comedy magic as such with full Dr. costume. It sounds like you have alot of tricks, what are your favorites and what do you do in your shows?
Cheers

Oh dear. You make me feel old and stupid. I'm 21 and only started magic a year ago, LOL.

By the way, there is a story about Devant and a young magician who approached him. The young magician told Devant, 'I know x (quite large) number of tricks now, how many do you know?' And Devant's answer was 'I perform 8.'

On that note, I think it's time for you to start looking through the tricks that you have currently and pick the ones suited for you and develop a performing personality.

I apologise if this sounds patronising and condescending.

Just my 2p.

P.S. I'm not particularly picky about this but I think most members here would prefer if you avoid text speak when you type. The occasional word is okay though, methinks.

Feedback answer

Postby zoomb » Dec 30th, '07, 23:56

Thanx for the feedback I'll take in mind what u said phoenixv.

I love all my tricx but at different times like I enjoy tricks from gross magic towards children and tricks like the energized coin to more grown up people. This also depends on the show so really I'm towards everyting, but if u r looking for a pesific answer I'm going to go for the swengalli cards a personel classic and easy to perform.
Tell me if u want more details Al Doty and i'll give u an update.

bye!!!!

You sound like a very smart 13 year old. I'm glad that you are eager to learn instead of just know. Applause applause, and welcome!

Nice to e-meet you zoomb! I agree with phoenixv, 2000 tricks is not th way to go. 4-5 tricks learnt inside out outisde in would probably be a lot easier and better for your reputation. Sometimes a magician whos pockets are full of way to many gimmicks of props are a lot less respected than those who have a coin and a pack of cards.

Good to see the youth dedicated!
Stay off of Youtube!

For years I have done a standard type of show consisting of several tricks and patter for each one. That has worked well but I have decided to do take the theme of a Magic Dr. and build a story around that. In comedy, a trick can fail and yet be funny. You can use a prop in a totally different way to fit your story and if you find the wrong card and then change it to another card but still the wrong one, both magic and comedy has occured with the focus on comedy.
I wish you well in your magic quest and yes let us all know more.
Best
