What should I do?

Postby LeftEye » Dec 27th, '07, 14:22

Ok, a while ago I started collecting playing cards. Mostly I got them from eBay which was fine up until a few weeks ago. I bought the deck and when I received it, the cellophane was still intact but the seal has been clearly ripped open.

I had another look at the advert and it said the cellophane is sealed and the USPCC seal is fully intact. He seems to think that it was damaged in transit which is pretty impossible considering the amount of protection he put around it and the size of the box it was in.

Anyway, he said he will send me another one if I send the original deck back plus money for his postage and packaging. Is this fair?

Any advice is great!

Say you'll send it and hang on to it until the replacement arrives

I've fallen for that one before - sent an item back for the seller who claimed that he never received it, despite it being recorded delivery.

What's more, the delivery was timed by the Post Office and the said item popped up on ebay for sale again within five minutes of the delivery time. The seller claimed that he had a spare, got very abusive and I never saw my £25 or item again.

ebay and Paypal were as much use as a chocolate tea pot - didn;t even close the seller down.

My advice is to put it down to experience, post negative feedback and hold onto the cards.

I like Tomo's advice. Or I could wait to get the cards, then open the damaged ones and play around with these ultra rare cards and claim they got damaged in transit. Evil

I wouldn't have a problem with it if he didn't ask for the extra postage. I think I paid 13 dollars for the postage last time, I don't fancy shelling out more for his f*ck up.

No doubt if I agree he's going to wait to receive my package then either send me the new ones or disappear.

Need to think of a way to con him back

Send him a random deck back in the right case, blame "pesky kids" when he discovers it then insist he sends them back to you at his own expense before you'll send the right ones back. After all, they're your property!

Send him a deck-sized brick/solid piece of metal/lump of clay and only put a stamp on it. He'll be charged by the post office before they will hand it over ;)

Glue all of the cards together.
That way he will probably have a quick glance to check that they are ok and won't notice before returning them to the box, thereupon several weeks later he tries the same scam with someone else. Et voila, someone elses problem.

Or replace all of the cards bar the top one. Same effect as above, except you get to keep the remainder of the cards.

Or write the values of all of the cards on their backs, then deny all knowledge.

Sorry, but I have to say maybe it was a genuine mistake and I don't think it warrants extreme measures, why not just trust the guy? It is not unknown for things to get opened in the post by curious postmen... Was the deck particularly valuable or is it just the principle of the thing?

Then again maybe I'm just a hippy/sucker...

No it is a valuable deck, I just don't see how the seal can be ripped open but the cellophane still intact. I'm going to talk to him to see if he will send the cards and when I receive them, send the old ones back. Very much doubt it will happen but if you don't ask you don't get :D

Maybe it was a factory fault? :?
Anywho, seems like you're taking a reasonable course of action, who knows maybe the seller is as confused as you are..

Logically, I wouldn't have thought it could. If it's collectable, I take it you never take the cellophane off, so there's scope for switching the cards for old bikes.

Well I did some snooping and managed to get the cellophane off, had a play with the cards, put them back in the box and Mr. Pritt Stick took care of the cellophane, pretty good job I think :D
