Lend us a tenner mate!

When I said I could probably afford to buy this I meant that technically I could probably find the money. However, in the real world I have a financial manager called Mrs Wizz who scrutinises every magic item that comes in to the house. Mrs W does not know exactly how much some items cost but she would notice the hole that a UFO would make in the bank balance.

Call me a coward, but thats not a conversation I (or anyone else) would want to have with my wife. So my claim that I could buy this was more theoretical than practical.

As for lending tenners to strangers...... Mrs Wizz will be in touch - you have been warned

Is live music really dead? Or is it just that the bottom end of the spectrum that got cleared out for some more cost- and space-effective backing tapes?
Is electronic tripe or a collection of samples a substitute for proper live music?
There are some great records that use samples but they're not the same genre as a live record. I think there is room for it all! The only people that suffer are those at the bottom end of the spectrum.

I don't think a beginner can render a true musician obsolete with "astouding" results by using samples. The beginner will impress himself but not many others.

Scared this is going way off topic.. apologies!! :?

Live music certainly isn't dead, I used to play fiddle in a folk-punk band. We'd play a gig at least once a week, we'd use the odd recorded backing but only to enhance what we were performing.

You can walk through the town on a Saturday or Friday night and always find a pub playing live music. Many people actually want to go somewhere that live music is playing rather than a disco so I'd say that live music is probabaly healthier than it's been for a long time.

Any way with all due respect I think the great suprendo hasnt really got a clue about the way mentalism works. Most of his post seem to be a challange to people who know a touch more then him.

yeh , i kinda understand the basics of mentalism and i can handle maybe having stooges etc as par for the course ,i fer sure dont know much , i know the jay sankey notepad kinda mentalism , switching rolled up papers and having half the notepad with a lastic band round it to hide the fact the front page is *****magic secret***** , the mentalists secret pencil and the mathematical oddities that occur in some puzzles , then the psychological side of mentalism , body language etc , i have also studied hypsnosis ..which is kinda off the mark ...but people like derren brown would have u believe his is a mixture of hypnosis and mentalism , but im not so sure ..probably more suggestion than hypnosis ...if theres a diffrence

Ah there you have it! I used to own a synthesiser with a button marked "violin" on it. No need to worry about G Strings breakin... oh I've just got the joke!... oh you dirty people!! disgusting!

Anyhow.. I'm off to get ready shortly for a singing gig tonite. And the irony is I'm using backing tracks and am greatful that there's a lot of ghost vocal on the backing track 'cos I have a sore throat as I think I'm fighting off a bug!

No stooges for me matey - never have used them, never will.

I think you find there are very few Mentalists who use stooges, they tend to appear rather obvious.

Yeap I agree with mental except now mental has my close-up act the swine!

You do get crys of that though "oh its a set up etc" Osterlind has a line

"Its important that you know I didnt set anything up ahead of time"

I would add to that "If I did could you please leave" for the heckler who would shout out "Me"

2 words.

Cold Reading.

And within that I include any information gleaned beforehand by reading guest lists, overhearing conversations, pumping for information etc.

Ask the Wand.
