Does anyone have this, can you offer a review? There seems to be very little about it other than what happens but the few comments I've read make it sound intriguing but I'd like to know more before I spend £14 plus postage on it.
Thanks

This is an excellent effect.

I will let PCwiz do the full review, but all I can say is that it really has three shocks... and here's a brief rundown...

THE EFFECT: (My handling, been a while since I read the instructions, so I think I may have deviated slightly)...
The magician places a deck of cards on the table. The magician asks the spectator to think of any card in the deck. He then tells the speccy that he will NAME the card the speccy is thinking of.

The magician ponders, and then announces "Lucy!". The spectator looks confused... "Lucy is the name of your card".

"Errr, no..." says the speccy. "It was! I am sure" replies the magi.

The magician then asks the speccy what was their card...

"3 of Diamonds" says the speccy...

"No problem..." the magician takes the deck out of the box and spreads through the cards face up until he finds the chosen card. It is tabled, face up.

He then turns the deck over, and shows the backs of the cards - each card has a girls name written on it. He goes through a few, all different.

He then asks the speccy to turn their card over... they do... and it says "Lucy", just how the magi predicted.

BUT THERE"S MORE... (this is the 'Plus' bit of 'Phil Plus')

The magi says "Well, I bet you think that was fluke, right? This time YOU will name MY card!!!"

The magi writes down a prediction on a piece of paper, and puts it in front of the speccy, face down.

"OK, name a girls name—short—four letters. Keep it simple" says the magi.

The spectator deliberates, and says a girls name.

The magician picks up the deck, face down, and spreads through the backs, showing all the girls names on the backs of the cards are random. He shows the faces, proving each card is different.

He comes across the chosen name, and places it down in front of the speccy, face down.

The rest of the deck is tabled, and when asked, the speccy turns the card and the selection simultaneously, and they match!!!!

______

This is EXACTLY how the effect plays. No special sleights, no worries!

The quality is a bit iffy (they are not Bikes), but more than passable. I have performed this effect SOOOOO many times, and each time it not only gets a laugh, but it's practically unfathomable.

PROS:
Compact, self-contained
Easy to learn
Auto-reset
Visual
Audience participation high
Cheap!

CONS:
Weird quality deck, but—in fairness—it has to be this way
Can't be inspected before, after or during
Can't be repeated to same 'crowd'
Deck is an obscure, but passable brand—but durable and well printed

Overall, in view of the fact that the deck you receive is a bit iffy, I still give this 10/10. A worthy purchase.

I'd agree it's a great trick a nice improvement on the regular Phil deck and one well worth getting. Easy to do, audience participation, gets laughs, a bit different to the usual card trick what more can you ask.

I just bought this today at Davenports and I've rehearsed it alone a couple of times and can't wait to give it a blast! The method is great, leaving me to focus on my presentation and hopefully doing much to calm my performance nerves!
I've also dug out my "Stolen Cards" due to the positive feedback I have read on TM, namely from dat8962 and am looking forward to giving that a blast too. :D

I have just got the original Phil deck, not the plus version. Have been trying it out on people and it gets one of two reactions:

Completely amazed.

and

"I bet the bottom half has all got 'Phil' written on it!"

It's a good effect, but unsure whether to use it in my actual routine.

One of the benifits of Phil Plus over the older version, is the second phase, where you think of a card and the spectator names it. It really helps reduce the risk of the response the previous post reports.

I recommend the blank version too, as you are not limited to girls names, but can put whatever you like on the deck. Very good quicky if you want an effect to highlight the USP's for a trade show or company booking. Just put words on the deck like 'team work' 'diversity' 'efficiency' etc etc and ask the spectators which quality is most important to their company or clients....

Thanks for that. I like the concept of the Phil deck and it sounds like the new one irons out the suspicions that people have with the older version.

Is is available on Bicycle stock?

I am not aware of Phil Plus available in Bike stock.
Davenports do it for around £14.

Shame. I know you can buy blank Phil decks where you can write your own names on. I have a feeling that I had seen these in Bike stock somewhere before. I may be wrong.

In fact, I probably am.

Yes, they are the decks that I have. I have taken them of ebay now, rip off merchants. My [supplied] routine is with numbers as opposed to names and makes for a much stronger [mentalism] effect.
