I am an ID fan. I have mine packaged up. I have it in an envelope which is stapled down and has string tied around it and I get a spectator to hold the package whilst I am getting a card chosen. I have a couple of ways I do this plus the original routine which I think plays out really well.

This adds to the "how did you do that factor" because I clearly couldn't have tampered with the deck while the choice was being made but it also gives me a reason for switching decks. If I am just doing card tricks I put the deck I am working with down in full view, do the invisible routine and then casually put the pack back in the box and the box in the now torn open envelope and stick it back in my pocket. I can then pick up the original deck and carry on. Nobody has ever questioned this.

I find that this is a real wow factor trick with nearly all spectators

I use a blue ID and after the selected card is produced, I rebox the ID leaving the selected card out. I then produce a red deck shell and place the blue backed card into what appears to be a red deck.

I use the patter that the spec will concentrate and make the blue card vanish from the red boxed deck but the deck actually appears to vanish.

Place back in your pocked and move onto the next table. I get strong reactions from this routine nd the reset is fairly quick

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

i am a serious amatuer and have only been messing with card tricks for a month or so.

I brought the ID and done the trick faultlessly on my girlfriend, she thought it was amazing.

Then one night my girlfriends brother and her Mum came round and she told me to show them my new trick. I haven't performed in front of anyone as i feel it is way to early and i seem to get the shakes if i do, because I'm just not used to it.

Anyway i proceeded to do the trick and of corse i was SO nervous of messing it up, I DID!
First when my girlfriends brother told me the card he was thinking of, i couldn't remember how the deck was set in the box. I then couldn't do the simple math, my mind went BLANK! when i finally sorted myself out i carried on, Now by this time my performance was starting to fall a part that my handling of the cards wasn't the best, i managed to reveal the wrong cards, TWICE! i finally found the one he had been thinking of. I just blamed it on the fact too many people were thinking of cards, i even told my girlfriends mother to stop thinking of cards it was messing my trick up! AND SHE BELIEVED ME!

The moral of this story is, that the ID is so forgiving you can make a complete pigs ear of the whole thing (like i did) and guess what? they still thought it was amazing i had managed to flip 2 cards (albeit wrong) without touching the box!

Hope i haven't exposed anything, i don't think i did.
