You're probably putting too much rotational pressure on the card with your little finger. Try to push straight down on the card, or even slightly "outward", rather than twisting it towards your other finger.

Other than that, it's a knack - and that means only one thing... practice :-D

Hello,

Try doing theOne hand Top palm whilst at a table - sweeping away imaginary dust from the table - the table stops the card from moving into an exposed situation!
Hold cards in Hand in readiness.
Start to execute OHTP
Swepp hand over the table as if brushing.
Card pops but cannot over rotate as it hits the table.

Thanks

Andy

Hi bofspdes,

I'm going through the same thing and having the same problem.

I have the most success when my thumb is firmly in the middle, my index and middle fingers far to the side, and the ring finger not really gripping the deck. The bottom of my thumb catches the corner before it rotates out too far. The loose grip of the ring finger allows you to use that and the pinkie to position the card better.

I stuggled with DLs, had a nightmare with the Charlier Cut and many other moves, but after lots and lots of practice, I can't remember what my problem was!

Hope this helps, let me know, good luck!

I was working in lost times on my 1 hand T-palm and never got it right so i stayed with the classic palming method.

But this topic has open lights for me, training on a flat table and releasing the pressure with the middle fingers made all the difference for me.

Thanx a lot ill keep on practicing tho!

Sankey's Revolutionary Card Magic DVD has a lot of excellent pointers on the OHTP. He also teaches the pass along with several other 'must-know' sleights.

Highly, highly recommended if you're having trouble with the OHTP or the pass.

The routines are very good as well, but I digress...

Lovely tips for a newbie at OHTP. You replied to my post even before I posted it :P

Seems like I have to get a hold of 'The revolutionary Card Magic". Struggling with the "invisible"-part of my invisible pass.

can i just point out one or two things

this tricks wrecked my head and the exact same thing was (and ocassionally still does) happening to me

i found that every part of the sleight is all about the baby finger

when ya pop it up with the baby finger try adjust you baby finger so that the outer most joint of the finger grips the top left hanf corner of the card(im a lefty so perhaps its right for you)

another thing in practice, do not rush it,thats what i found causes the card to spring with out any direction and seems to always go too far off.do it slowly and try understand what your doing.i feel that its all about the pinkie tho.ya just have to pop it up with the pinkie and adjust it with the pinkie.i find that if the thumb is in the middle of the deck then it helps for it not to sway a million miles off.

also bring your palm down sort of parralell with the deck if you understand me,PM me if ya want to know more or whatever

Yup the OHTP is a tricky move to get right! It took me ages to get it down with the card always popping out to the left (I'm a lefty with cards).

I find keeping my thumb at the back of the cards slightly off centre helps, (I keep it to the left but if you're right handed keep it off to the right).

Also try moving the pinkie away from the other fingers as you 'pop' the card up

Basically it's a 'knack' and you will need to practise, practise and then practise some more and then when your hand cramps up take a break and then get back to practising again until you get the 'knack'.

I found doing it slowly to start with and then once I'd found the 'knack' I kept practising and the speed came naturally - I think this holds true to several card sleights!

I always have a deck of cards in my hand when watching TV, great way to practise!

Hope this helps!!!

Like everyone says, it is a difficult move, but with anything, it takes time and practice. I can do it, but still sit in front of the TV practicing, just so it becomes natural...

My only tip is to use the pad of the little (pinky) finger, rather than the tip. When I first started trying it, I did it with the tip and it ALWAYS went to the side, but the pad works everytime. Oh, and also try and find what 'depth' is right for you on your thumb.

Good luck
