I used to smoke 25 a day from the age of 15 to the age of 39. Then when my daughter was born I stopped just like that. I was always a very polite smoker - eg I would never smoke in a restaurant even back in the 1980's when everybody smoked - so the way I decided to look at it is that I haven't actually stopped smoking; it's just going to be a very long time between cigarettes.

I'm so glad I stopped though, for no other reason than there is no sight sadder these days than to see a pathetic huddle of smokers shivering outside of pubs and offices.

Thought I'd give you all a quick update, not one cigarette has passed my lips since 12am on the 1st day of 2008 and it's good now. Day two when I wrote the stressy post was definitely the worst, but since then it's just been getting easier. Haven't had a nicotine tab since Wednesday either. :D

So if you are in the same process of giving up as me, stick with it, it gets easier!

I plan to give up coke this year. It was heroin last year that I managed to kick.

Well here we are almost a month after the start of 2008 and I just got to wondering how people are doing with their new year resolutions?

I still haven't had a cigarette since New Years Eve 2007, a personal victory!

What about the rest of you? Any joy with those resolutions?

well I've managed to cut right back on the vodka and coke as I said I would. Only problem is that I've got a taste for Pina Coladas now
