Looking for a very easy self working trick

Postby Georgias Dad » Feb 5th, '08, 21:46

Hi all I'm currently reading Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic and my little girl loves watching me practice my tricks.

The thing is she wants some tricks of here own, the problem is she has cerebral palsy and has no co-ordination, so I've been looking at self working tricks for her.

I seen
Dice Atomizer
A clear capped capsule with a black die inside is given a shake. The die disintegrates into several tiny coloured dice.

Has anyone ever seen or used this if so do you just shake it and it works or is there more to it.

Also has anyone got any other ideas?

Many Thanks
GD

Marvin's magic had a version of that which I still have somewhere (I forget the name). If the effects are the same, there is just shaking, no more. However, it does have to be re-set after each performance, which sometimes requires steady hands, if you get my meaning. (if this is exposure, then please feel free to delete this post).

Incidentally, I checked the Marvin's magic site, and it appears that they don't stock this particular effect any more. :(

She can do this. All it is, is a shake and the big dice turns into the little ones. The problem is the reset. Trust me you will have to reset it each time. And it is easy to loose the little dice but really she can keep the lid on and it is self contained. You will have to open it just to reset.

Depending on the severity of her palsy you can try egg and vase. It is just a large ball and vase. Again you will obviously have to judge. If she can pull the top of with some degree of accuracy she could probably do this as well. As for the Vanish, the egg can go into a bag you can make up a change bag from a brown paper bag.

Here is you best bet. If there is a magic shop you can get to. Go there explain your situation let them recomend some effects and ask them to show you exactly what is involved so you can best decide if she can do them. If they give you attitude about showing you how it works before you buy then take your business elsewhere. We are not talking about the magic here, we are talking about a little girl where magic can really do some good!

Dime and Penny effect. You put a penny on the back of your hand or anywhere. Pass the little red block over it and the penny changes to a dime.

What about the colouring book, can she flip the pages of a book. If so then this is really recommended. Double colour changing hank. Just run your hand along the hank and it changes colour. Also Rope to hank or colour changing rope. Rope to hank gets a little fidgety though, sometimes takes a little strength.

All the above should range between the 5.00 and 20.00 range. If you are really stuck and can't get a a local magic shop to help I have a number to one in Canada that will. Let me know.

Oh she is very strong so the rope to Hank should be OK

As for resets I can do that for her.

I had a similar effect years ago from Magic Tricks By Post where a black dice turned into a white one. easy to do and reset.

You can get a good egg bag from www.worldmagicshop.co.uk for £6/7 which is easy to use. She may be able to do a simple routine with it as it's straightforward to use and self-contained.
I reviewed it in the Tricks and Props section.

I'll have a think of other things I have or have seen that may be suitable. Coin Unique is a killer effect and easy to do. If she's able to shake a matchbox or swirl a glass then she's in business with that. It's pricey but a goodie and has countless uses.

Don't go and buy anything!!!!

PM me your details and I will look out some things that I don't use. these come from sets like Marvins etc, which are very basic. My son doesn't use them now either, so I have been hanging onto them just because I don't want to throw them away.

At least these will give you an idea on what to get in the future, rather than spending out now.

Hope this helps.

Edit, I believe the dice effect is known as either "Dizzy dice" or "Dice Bomb." Might be able to sort something out for you on this, need to speak to you on PM though. Also, I have a flat change bag you can add to the list.

shame you didn't post this a couple of weeks ago, I've just had a clear through of all my magic stuff and alot of simple little tricks that would have been ideal found their way into a black plastic bag.

Still, sounds like Darrel's sorting you out :D
