Anyone know which trick these coins belong to?

Anyone know which trick these coins belong to?

Postby TerryC » Feb 6th, '08, 23:35

While reorganizing my magic stuff I came across a baggie with the following coins in it. I vaguely remember buying it and never used it because I couldn't hide the noise of the coins clicking when they shouldn't.

US Half dollar/old English penny gaffed coin
US Half dollar and old English penny - regular
A Chinese washer type coin (with a hole in the middle) --very plain
The same Chinese washer, but just a shell
There is also an English 2p coin, but I suspect it has nothing to do with the trick.

It seems like a Scotch and Soda routine. But if anyone knows what it is I would be pleased. I would be even pleasder (oops!) if anyone could provide the instructions on how to use them.

Thanks

I think it may be called "The Chinese Bit". I'm sure I have a routine with very similar, if not the same, coins.

I'd agree and it sounds as if you have a mix from a few different coin effects.

The coins mentionned on the first three lines sound very much like a Chinese bit routine.

The chinese shell may be an 'extra' for expanding the set into something along the lines of a hopping halves type routine.

As for the 2p coin, I also suspect that it has nothing to do with the above but have you checked to see if it's a coin unique?

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

A UK version of copper, silver brass perhaps?

Well, I think I may have the answer.

While digging through my old files I found instructions for Johnson Silver/Copper/Brass Transposition. The instructions refer to a Mexican 20 Peso, but mine has a UK penny. (I live in Canada). It also uses the Chinese coin shell.

The instructions were on fax paper, but with the Johnson letterhead. So I suspect they make more than one version.

Thank you for all who helped.
