Winter: A good time to practice palming

For my 100th post I thought I’d share something I’ve recently stumbled upon.

I’ve never been that interested in coin magic, and only had a passing interest in money magic at all. However, reading a few posts has changed my mind and I started to think that some basic coin slights might lend themselves of use in some other effects I’ve been practicing.

So I made a little tour of Bobo and ordered myself a copy. I started with the Classic Palm.

Here in Midwest USA it’s still rather cold and we just had another snow storm move through. One day I was headed out of the house and grabbed a quarter and half-dollar to practice my palming. Only problem was it was way too cold to go without gloves. I tried palming with the glove, which was effective, but not the best practice.

As I was walking out to my car I tried slipping the coin into my glove and then palming it, which worked – REALLY well. I could practice my palming as I went about all my errands, without having to worry about dropping the coin and hearing that shameful “cling-cling” when the coin hits the ground.

I could practice palming while talking to retail employees, opening doors, picking up groceries at the store. I really enjoyed testing myself in various situations without having to worry about someone seeing the coin, dropping it, or losing it (quarters are important to college students with a pile of laundry sitting at home ;)).

So for anyone that is looking to work on their classic palm, or just wants to test exactly how much they can get away with and still keep the coin palmed I would recommend a pair of knit cotton gloves and a cold day.
