You got tallent - beat this

Postby Soren Riis » Feb 11th, '08, 14:30

All magicians who hope to win the UK competition "you got talent", should appreciate that they are not on the US show! I cannot see how its possible to beat this guy! He did this on the American "You got talent" show!

Incredible.......though I am sure we all know the principle

Magic is slight of mind!

It's not a shame its on youtube at all. You wouldn't have seen it otherwise. It IS a shame however the morons that choose to post on youTube aren't of higher intelligence.

He did this at Blackpool about 5 years ago during the Gala night & was the talk of all the chip shops. The top half ran off into the audience with blood all over him.

It's a bit of a shame that a talent contest where the winner of the British show was a mobile phone salesman who liked to sing Opera & the US version has a full time & very well know international illusionist taking part.

Still a good effect though.

I agree totally. The American version was amazing - lots of professionals and very talented amateurs in whatever they did. Cut to the UK version and it is won by a mobile phone salesman. OK, so he's got quite a good voice, but the calibre of the acts just isn't the same. But now the UK show has a reputation, which means that it's likely that there will never be any professionals on it now.

My point was that I prefered the British version. Having well known professionals taking part in a talent show just didn't sit well with me. I actually think it's better to take someone who has ambition but no other way of getting their talent noticed. Otherwise why not get Maria Carey, Michael Jackson & Madonna to fight it out in a talent competition.

Hurray for Britain.

OK, fair cop I misunderstood you. But I stand by what I said earlier. Some of the acts seen on the British show were absolutely cringeworthy!! I'd much rather see proper acts performing. But then again, that's not what gets the ratings... Take Dave Allen's duck routine for example. Now, I'm told that it is a very good and very funny routine - but it went totally wrong. And, no shock, the producers showed that. But I am sure that has been discussed a lot on the forum so I will say nothing more about it. Like I said, all about the ratings...

The quick changers were good (American Version). Really good but a bit of a one trick pony when the basis of your act is changing clothes very quickly. Not a great deal of scope within a talent show with various rounds.

Notice the flashed mirror, ouch. Would have been perfect if not for that.

News reports from the UK show included details of several animal acts which went wrong, a magician's doves flew off and took ages to coax down off the lighting gantry! Worst news of all is in an interview with Simon Cowell where he was asked which act automatically annoys him as soon as they walk on stage. His reply was, "Magicians, every time". Best of luck all you magicians on that show  !

I actually, out of curiosity, send my details in for the first series. I read what they sent out & thought it would be a bad idea for a close up magician to enter as it was mostly stage acts which would benefit. I also knew that Cowell had a thing about magicians beforehand & from watching similar shows had a feeling that a name that I have worked hard to achieve could be damaged by the embodiment of a 'bad spectator'.

Everyone on here must've had people saying they should go on the show but the clever ones turned it down.
