I need an "appearing ink" for an effect!

Postby trashmanf » Feb 8th, '08, 19:12

Hi,

As is often the case I'm sure, I have an idea of an effect but not sure of how to implement the method. Basically I want a fancy way of presenting my business card, showing it blank first, then allowing it to print.

Now there's nothing too new here, lots of magicians accomplish this with simple color changes. But I'd like to have the ink appear in the spectator's hands.

Are there any "appearing inks" that could possibly have their appearance triggered by something controllable? Like I'm thinking maybe i have a sticker over the card , and when I remove it I have like 10 seconds before the ink appears or something (perhaps it's triggered by air)

Or I could heat it up in my hands causing it to go blank, then when the card cools down the ink appears.

Are there any products/effects/ways to do this that some more accomplished magicians here know? I'm somewhat of a newbie having only about a year in magic!

Thanks in advance!

Fletcher

I'm not sure where to get the ink but what is on the hank is an ink that reacts to the heat of your hand. I'm afraid however that it is the reverse of what you are looking for.

The problem, even if you get hold of the stuff your business cards are not going to look very profesional. I'd go with a rising business card.

This can also be achieved with Colbalt Chloride, although you would have to find a nice Chemistry set or a teacher to get you some....It looks very goos though as it works on heat !

hey guys, thanks for the responses, I may have found what I need.

the term is "thermochromic" and apparantly it's a relatively new technology in paints/inks. I've got a sample on the way to me, hope it works well.
