I seem to remember a thread long ago where eventually the discussion of my chess playing abilities came up... anyway, my abilities at chess aren't that important, but what I can magically do with a chess board is...

Apart from three or four little bits in Corinda, I cant find anything on Chess tricks.

Are there any? Or am I being hopeful?

Muscle reading to determine where a person would like to move a piece on the board might work. I think it's described in Banachek's book as well as his DVD on the subject.

[edit] I think it's also mentioned in Fitzkee's book. Also, personally, my muscle reading skills aren't honed enough to do something as small as a chess board, and my understanding is that it never works one hundred percent of the time.

That said, Good luck!

The muscle reading example is an excellent bit of thinking! I may have to try that one for myself!

You could work with the concept of chess masters being able to see many moves ahead, and some - being able to focus so intently on the player they are facing, that they can predict how a series of moves will be made.

You produce a sealed envelope, holding it in full view.

Then it's just a matter of setting a particular scenario of your choice - allow the player to make any move they like, and at the conclusion you open the envelope to show that you predicted each move your opponent would make.
