Silly first timers question coming up and I know a lot depends on how much I intend to spend on new magic stuff but what is a good guide for spending money to budget for?

I know it'll vary a lot but wouldn't mind knowing roughly what people have spent in the past etc

I usually spend about £800, but that includes alcohol and lap dances

I'll casually spend at least £100 on food and drink, plus another ton on tricks. Unfortunatley there's only £200 in my bank account and I'm off to leeds to see Reel Big Fish on Tuesday. Hello Overdraft!

Crickey i was thinking personally about £150 on food and drinks and maybe the same on tricks (I'll be getting coinvexed at £85) but willing to over run a little as needs be. I'd get killed by the bank manager if I went too much over that amount I think (Still I'd take that chance if it ends up costing more, £800 though! I'll have a pint of lager please Mark ;) )

You'll have a Lemonade and like it!!!

Mind you, that £800 does cover a lot, last year I was building a couple of new acts, and spent £120 on a table, as well as food, drink, accomodation etc.

Might cut it down to £700 this year...

So its the morning after the last night of the convention - i drove back home at 2am, in time for school this morning (too tired to go as it happens, but what the hey)

Oh and if anyone wants some fine points on our personalised card through window trick, PM me.

All the best,

I've just got back about a two hours ago after the first time going. It's great fun, I feel I got a good mix of lectures, dealers hall, shows and drinking in the Ruskin.

All in a great weekend.

Highlights for me include getting to see Shaun Farqhour work - I'd love to learn his cups and balls routine, seeing this Illusion by a Belgium called Rafael on the saturday night and having supper with Ali Bongo last night chatting away for over an hour and having a private lesson on the gypsy thread taught in detail by the great man. What a true gent, I'll mail him in the next few days to say thank you.

Aye, it was a good weekend, my wallet took an absolute beating mind. Highlights for me were watching lawrence spend 85 quid on Coinvexed (hilarious), and kostya kimlat's triumph routine, which was jawdrpping and prompted me to reach for my wallet and hand over 25 pound immediately.

Ah yeah, Lawrence did say that he'd departed with some cash for the mentioned trick after having been fooled 3 times by it :)

yeah that Kimlat routine is amazing, if only it were possible for mere mortals to cull that fast ! I hope that DVE helps :)

He's a devil of a salesman that Penn! I had to go round 3 cash points to actually find cash too. gah! I nearly flipped a table!
quite a few highlights this year one of the major ones was people actually taking me seriously when I was talking absolute rubbish (mainly about top changes), one of the hypno fellas actually said "that's one of the best ive seen" and in my head I'm thinking "er...... no". Really should've explained some of this to the welsh boys, they did indeed take me too seriously and get a little irritated methinks.
What else? James Piper pitching his fantastic signed card through window effect to everyone within reach, Ian Rowland was not impressed!
The balloon lady I have sat next to me now. Cheers Tony
Juggling with that fella last night; and then turning round to see a lot of cameras pointed at us.
Meeting David Stone and the man who invented the splash bottle gimmick and thanking them both on the practical pint carrying application of the gimmick.
I could keep going, and Im sure I will later on...

I gotta say, Kimlats Cull had to be the highlight of the weekend, that and the welsh lads CTW idea. I didnt see them try and pitch it to Ian Rowland - what happened. I only saw them pitch it to Martin Sanderson, Richard Sanders, Mark Spellman, A few bystanders, and even Alan Shaxon! He seemed to enjoy the pitch.

So go on - what happened with Ian Rowland?

EDIT: And for anyone interested in our CTW pitch, PM either me or Lawrence, but you have to read our replies in a welsh accent - it makes it all the better.
But heres a rough breakdown of the effect:
Start clean
Can be done with any deck
Can be done with almost any window
Almost all happens in the spectators hands
You never go to the other side of the window
The card visually penetrates the glass
You only handle the deck to put it into the openly shown examinable gimmick which alot of you will already own
You hold the deck for less than a second
You throw the cards at the window and then their card is clearly seen on the other side Everything completely examinable start to finish
End almost clean

All the best,

You sell that just like a typical advert for a trick Croz and the secret is just as, well lets say typical of many tricks

Hell,

Had a very good and enjoyable weekend, if not an excedingly tiring one. Mainly due to a number of prats keeping me up beyond my usual 9pm bedtime

TM members not usually at our Up North meet turned up but refused our usual greeting of raw cows stomach and uncooked pigs trotters but they did enjoy the unnanounced strip show involving the police woman and her truncheon. Unfortunately they didn't realise it was Lawrence in drag.

However, the magistrates have promised to be lenient in the forthcoming Court case.

Next year, I'll try to keep awake above 4am. Maybe a mixture of viagra and red bull

And, I did mention this before, I think we should have a simple sticker or badge for TM members to recognise each other. Now I'm going to book for next year 8)

Not until it was too late to be scarred for life!
