Spike Cups?

Postby bananafish » Feb 29th, '08, 12:34

Any ideas where to buy cups that fit over the Spike - ideally polystyrene. I didn't realsie they would be so difficult to find? Not just the size but the Polystyrene ones react better and are more opaque.

eBay everything ;)

Postby Whalemeister » Feb 29th, '08, 12:44

Have you checked eBay? There are people there selling some;

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=Polystyrene+cups

Most supermarkets usually have some type of disposible cups, plates etc so you could try there.

Other than that you might want to check out a local 'greasy spoon' cafe or similar establisment and try to work out some kind of deal with them.

Hope these ideas help

I got mine from Bookers Wholesalers. You need to have trade membership - pm me if you are having difficulty, I should be able to get some for you.

Poundstretcher and the cheapo shops do polystyrene cups which seem to be about the right size.

I have had trouble finding the smaller cups for use with the Scorpion.
The ones that they put salad in for poppadoms in Indian takeaways are just the right size but I'm not sure where to buy these in bulk.

The ones I have seen in supermarkets are just too big.

Wholesalers to the catering industry are a good place to start, I get them by the box load as I use the version with the NO Chance dice in trade shows.
Also shops of an everything for 50p nature seem to sell them.
Party supply shops are another good place to try.
Alternatively you could try robbing a roadside burger van.

Thanks for the offer of getting me some. I need them by Sunday - so I may change what I am doing if I can't find them before them. I have been in 5 supermarkets now and it seems that styrofoam/polystyrene cups just aren't that common any more. (when I do find a source I will buy a load).

It has been suggested I try the cardboard cups from Burger King/Macdonalds - at least they would be big enough (and hopefully not too big). I would prefer polysytrene though - they smash better.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I checked Poundstretcher at lunchtime and they only do the white or clear thin plastic ones these days, sorry. Ditto the local cheapo shops.

The exact place I use is called Surrey Wholesale. It's in Crawley, west sussex so probably not much use to most of you. I originally found it through the Yellow Pages under Catering Products - Disposable.
You might find somewhere local to you though at yell.com

Got some. Thanks everyone. This really is the place for magicians helping magicians.

After driving around all day, I found an industrial estate with a cash and carry a mile away from where I live. Amazing. Still I am all stocked up now with enough cups for a life time of smashing and stabbing (or until I get it wrong at any rate). I evenb bought some more cups for Scorpion.

Thanks again.

Which is bizarre, because while I was talking to you on the phone earlier I had an attack of CUPS and brought a tarantula!

I am making my own "Covers" for the spike and Scorpion. See the link below for an idea on how they may look.

I feel this saves money and because they fold you can pack them away simple. The material I have bought was from a charity shop and was a hand bag at one time.

Tc all
Ps Don't look at the pretty girls look at the Covers..
