Hello to everyone..... Times have changed

Postby snazaro » Jan 20th, '08, 23:46

Hello to one and all.

Many thanks for letting me join this fantastic site. After a few years away due to life issues I have found myself back with the magic bug. I started messing around with cards and coins ect about 14 years back and got totally addicted and spent many years entertaining family, friends and even working a few parties when I could. Like I said, sadly I could not give it the attention I wanted so I fell behind with modern times. … AND boy has it changed…. OK I never fully forgot and was always asked to perform a few effects when possible (I say effects, I have never liked the word TRICK). Like I say, has it changed?????……WOW… Gone have the days catching a train up to London to spend most of the day at Davenports or the International Magic Studio. I also joined the brotherhood of magicians in Reading….(Is it still going does anyone know???) I even took a few long weekends up to Blackpool for the magic studios up there.

Now you need to log on watch the effect on line and order if you think the effect would suit your style….. EVEN, EVEN, EVEN worse……. YOU TUBE…. BAN IT…..BAN IT …… AND AGAIN BAN IT. I’m sorry but I know times have changed but giving away secrets to the whole world for nothing (not even performing the magic) really made me mad. I was viewing an effect the other day labelled “the best card trick ever” which I stress the movie maker gave away the whole thing BADLY. Not a credit was given to the effect originator…. They did not even give it the right name…. It was Red Hot Mama if you are interested…. An effect I still do, old I know but to lay men a killer….Grrrrrrr.

Anyway, My moaning over…Sorry…. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of a good cream or lotion I could use for my hands. Sadly after many years time is taking its toll on my hands. I find they are a lot dryer now and to control cards is not so easy. I have tended to use a damp towel but its not really practical. I have even used a ball of magicians wax in my pocket to roll my finger tips over but I thought someone may have a better idea.

Any advice would be most welcome. Once again I would like to say this is a great site and I hope to be logging in to share and chat with others that appreciate this fine art….

Snaz.

Hi and welcome to TM, I'm sure you'll find more than a few people here share your opinions on You Tube. As for hand cream, I use Nivea and find that works really well, also Body Shop Hemp handcream is very good too :D

Hand cream! I have climbers hands, so something heavy duty is what I need!

Hope you have a great time here on TM! 8)

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Hello and welcome Snaz.

Personally I've found rosewater and glycerine from Boots very effective, fast acting, good grip etc.

For non-magical purposes I prefer Dove though hehe.

Good old Johnson's baby lotion (the pink stuff, not the clear oil) is pretty good, but it's quite heavily perfumed. Not too much, and rubbed well in provides soft and grippy hands.

SortKwik is great, but hard to come by.

If all else fails and you're in a bind and need a fast solution, although this SOUNDS weird and counter-intuitive, just go and wash your hands with warm soapy water immediately before the show... most places have a bathroom, and it's amazing how many times this is overlooked.
