Oh and if you like Asian horror films, try A Tale Of Two Sisters. It's technically Korean but it's very creepy... *shudders*

Yeah, I must put those on my wish list. Funny how Hollywood never picked up on them...although I guess you could argue that Lost wouldn't have happened without them???

Definitely go to the top of the wish list!

And unfortunately Hollywood has grabbed Battle Royale.
Some bozo claims he's remaking it as an American film but it's going to be "true to the original".

If it doesn't blow, I'll eat my hat

[edit]Please don't get me started on Lost...  [/edit]

They are talking about making ring zeo which was the prequel to the ring movies. Battle royale is being made very soon

We have Grudge 1 & 2 (Hollywood version). Tonight for the first time we watched the original Japanese Grudge. Afterwards my wife turned to me and said "Why did Hollywood have to remake it? It was perfect as it was." And my wife is hardly the most liberally minded movie-goer. I explained about American audiences and subtitles and box office takings.

Understanding Japanese culture really helps too.

Like the japanese cultural fear of women and children.
And the fact that to them water is a mystic energy. Makes the scenes in the Japanese Ring 2 with the swimming pool seem more sensible.
And the reason that the boogey-man in the Ring films is a female child.

Ever read the book?

The book is good. Bit of an abrupt end though.

I also would like to go to Japan, but I don't think I can go until I have money to burn :(

I just finished reading a chapter out of a book named Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison. Need to write a response for lit class by tomorrow.

Is this the same book?

I love japanese/cantonese horror films. Anyone seen 'the eye'? (soon to be 'remade'/spoiled). I recently got the second one , but I dont think its anywhere as good or scary.

A book I read on ghosts a long time ago said that the ghosts seen in japanese horror films go back to very ancient roots. Its a specific type of ghost thats believed to be the ghosts of women who die in childbirth. They always have long black hair and they can strangle people with it.

I have the eye, great film and yes sadly like many more, some of our american cousins think it easier to remake a whole film than read subtitles.

Another great one to look out for high on the list of to-be-remade flicks is "r-point".
suberb korean ghosty film set in the dying days of vietnam.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh
