New York Magic Shop

Postby Ed Wood » Mar 17th, '08, 20:09

I'm going to be in New York very briefly next month. Can anyone recomend a good magic shop? I'm not going to have much time so preferably in the Manhattan area.
Cheers, Ed

I asked Demitri the very same thing recently and he kindly sent me this PM...

Tannen's Magic - 45 West 34th Street in Manhattan is the "Grandaddy" of NY magic shops. Always nice to stop in there.
Fantasma - Doesn't offer the variety of Tannen's but the shop itself is nice, and David Roth and Simon Lovell hang out there quite a bit - and are more than happy to sit and chat with you all day.
There's the Abracadabra Superstore further downtown (19th st), but I've never actually been there.

That's about it for New York City. There's Ronjo - but that's further out on Long Island, over an hour outside of the city. You can't go wrong with Tannen's really, and with the exchange rate heavily in your favor, you can get away with some great deals.

Thankyou Replicant (and Demitri).
Tannen's Sounds perfect. Just Multimapped it and it's only 1.56 miles from my hotel, very convenient.
Here's to the U.S dollar crashing a bit more before I go. :D

I prefer Tannen's, just saying. They seem to be more personal there.

agreed, Tannens has the best selection and prices, but Fantasma is certainly worth a visit.

If you are there on a monday, try and get tickets to see Monday Night Magic

And meet me! I'm the worst magician around. I'll be easy to find.
