read books on presentation, routining and so on...or rather, the sections in books that mention that...
like these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magic-Showmansh ... 75&sr=1-10
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magic-Theory-In ... 75&sr=1-10
then go off and put it all together...the Royal Road to card magic is all you need to get started with...
i wish in fact, i'd read those two books when i started RRTCM, and then i would of probably jumped to lewis jones and lennart green's work, and cut out all the repetative dross that i thought buying would give me "confidence"....
you cant buy that i found out, you learn it by doing stuff for people..scarey but true!
friends and family are fine to start off with...but the wierd thing is, you'll get stronger results when you finally perform for strangers...
anyway, good luck....i may also add, that to pick maybe 3 magicians who you enjoy watching, and study who they studied if you see what i mean...
and never be scared to be wrong...or mess up - and finally, then i'll shut up - please remember to alter the patter so it sounds like you talking...whatever you do, do the unnatural, naturally...
