Hi Tom. Are you exhibiting at the show or are yoy just going for a look around?

My first thought as someone who makes 75% of all his livlihood from wedding receptions - and I mean no disrespect when I say this - but maybe you're a little young at the moment to be trying to find work in this area?

At 14 and 15 years old there may be issues with a venue's licensing laws, plus insurance? Perhaps children's magic shows should be the way to go for the next few years?

As I said, no disrespect and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Id be inclined to agree..A wedding place with a few drunken adultswould not be easy, less so for a 14 year old! Saying that, you'l probably be better than me, however-best of luck to you all the same if thats what your going for!

I must agree with my friends above. It is a tough area to be in and there may be problems as Paul said. But the best of luck to you if you do this

Congratulations.
But what are you actually asking us? Why are you actually going? To advertise? Peform? Both?

a sensible tip: use business cards for predictions, if someone doesn't ask for one then it's a less forceful way of getting your info into their hands.

Just to update the guys that told us we were too young. We got four bookings with even more interest so we were very glad we went.

Are the venues aware that they will effectively be employing a minor? I know when I was younger, a lot of people wouldnt employ me because their insurance wouldnt cover so young to perform on their premises. You might turn up, and find you cant actually work.

Im only 18 myself, but ive been working as a pro for nearly 6 years now. I work weddings on a weekly basis, and I sometimes struggle with audiences at weddings. Fair play your going out there and working, but youve got to ask yourself "Do I really have the performance AND lifeskills to work a wedding in an efficeient, entertaining, and non-intrusive manor"

Out of interest, what fee are you charging as a minor for a typical 2 hour wedding booking?

All I can say is I am shocked you got as many as four bookings.

When we were spying entertainment for our wedding, the last thing we'd have looked for is employing minors.

I guess people were looking for something to keep the kids entertained when they booked you?

Thats why I ask what sort of fee they were charging, I get the feeling a low, undercutting fee might have something to do with it...

Well I didn't like to say anything, but that's what crossed my mind at first. I also asked for them to keep us updated because I've a feeling this one might crash and burn at the first obstacle.

I sincerely hope they're not charging £50 or something, but it is what I suspect.

At 14 or 15 years old I do hope they're not treated like performing monkeys by drunken wedding guests.

Oh well. None of my business.

Actually you guys aren’t very supportive and to be honest people pay for quality and not age and we are both members of equity so insurance is covered and we are not charging £50 for two hours work. We charge about £165-200 depending on location and people are willing to pay that as we are very good. After doing this exhibition we actually received interest from the hotel that held it asking if we would be available for restaurant work in their hotel so that is another positive thing come from the exhibition. It just goes to show that even if you are our age you can get work if you are good enough. It is not like we are kids that have picked up a Marvin’s magic kit and gone out performing that.

Anyway I think I have ranted for long enough.

Adios

Tom

I've only just come across this thread and I think that people have been quite horrible to these lads.

Have any of you seen them perform? Do you know what they do?

For all we know they could be brilliant!

I think that they've got real guts for getting out there and doing it.

Good on you both and best of luck :D
