Cut and restored - wire?

Postby johnnygri » Apr 2nd, '08, 12:22

I've done a TM search and trawled through pages of Google results and consulted the books on my shelves, alas I can find no previous work done on a cut and restored wire trick.

I admit I haven't looked at cut and restored rope/string effects yet, thought I'd throw this out there as there might be a specific one to lookup that would be suitable for wire too.

Any help welcome.

Cheers
John

I've seen this done with the lead on a microphone where the performer's patter stops as the wire is cut and starts again as it's restored. Basically a cut and restored rope routine, as found in many magic books, but with the added twist of the loss/restoration of sound?

I'd have thought that most cut and restored ropes would work well, depending exactly what the effect you're after is. There's a few in Karl Fulves Self Working Rope Magic and a bucket load in the Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks.

The problem with wire is that it can often be too inflexible. Magician's rope is much better for cut and restored tricks.

Rope isn't better if you want to do a cut and restored wire trick!

Thanks for the feedback people, I'll take a closer look at rope stuff.

Whilst Mandrake is probably referring to the Paul Zenon effect, I ripped this off for one of my magic videos in the file sharing section

I just used a simple cut and restored rope principle to accomplish the effect.

[edit] just found the link. Watch away if you want http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic13106. ... tored+rope

You might mate but the people in the front row might prefer it to stay cut

On some DVD somewhere (it's late  ) a guy does it with someone's iPod headphones, same old method, just gets some white wire from Maplin and waits patiently until he sees a cheerful looking victim. Dresses it up as a joke confrontation about them having illegal downloads on their iPod
