Not very good, in my opinion. And a bit of a disaster for the coin workers among us who...supplement their sleights.

When the old style US Quarter-sized 5p/shilling was being reduced in size there was quite an outcry and The Mint took absolutely no notice whatsoever. So what's new?

I think reducing the size of coins was a sensible move, but of course not so good for my old Paul Daniels version of 'Dynamic Coins'! I don't do much in the way of coin work (as in 'basically none'), but this change seems a bit pointless to me. I don't even think the designs are that good.

this malarky is exactly why iv'e never used british coins for magic and whent with american scotch n sodas, pennys (old english) and chinese coins.
after all if your going to do something magical with coins they may as well look odd and interesting and thus have magical powers.

I would have just had to buy a new folding coin, flipper coin and nest of coins jsut before the new coins come out.

Whats happening to the 2 pound coin anyway?

EDIT: ignore me - - http://money.uk.msn.com/consumer/galler ... o-number=9 - no change really - though it does look shinier

Actually, some better pictures there I think - http://www.royalmint.com/newdesigns/des ... ealed.aspx

They don't mean anything to me on a day-to-day basis - but I think these new coins look incredible. I love the design of the shield across the entire set - it's a great concept.

I wish the US would take a cue from the 2 pound and Euro coins - I have always loved the look of the two-tone coins.

yuck! Those are really horrible, no sign of good old Britania just a mess that looks like some badly done, primary school collage

I agree, I think they look amazing. But I wish they would make the 2p coin smaller - for such a low-value coin, I don't see why it has to be one of the largest.

Some of those coin sets look very nice, too.

Not too sure what I think about them tbh. I suppose we'll all get used to them like everything else after a while.

On this subject my mum found my old dynamic coins a while ago, with the old larger 5p's. I can't believe the size they used to be.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

WHAT! Do you have any idea how hard it is to muscle pass a 2p as it is!

I personally really like the new design. The criteria was something modern interpreting old design. The idea of having them all together to make one big picture is symbolising the countries that come together to make the United Kindom - though I feel this video explains it better than I -

I did think at first that it had more than a whiff of April Fool about it. But they're alright I suppose, probably paid a fortune for the designing though.

Am I right in thinking they are the same size & weight as the current ones?
