Hello all

Postby Archie » Jul 6th, '04, 17:14

Just thought it was polite to say Hi before I go off and read and post etc.

I've had a passing interest in card magic for years but only in the last 6 months have I actively done anything about it. I'm still an absolute amateur being only about a quarter of the way through the Royal Road to Card Magic which my darling wife bought me for Christmas. That said my children and wife like what I can do so far and thats encouraging!

I'm a self employed recruitment consultant by trade and card magic is becoming my main hobby.

I'm not sure what I can add to this forum but I'll try to add sensible thoughts and comments when I am able and I hope you will all forgive me if I ask a lot of questions - us recruitment consultants are inquisitive by nature :)

Greetings and welcome - you can ask as many questions as you like and, if we can give an answer we'll do our best. You've probably already spotted that we can't give out any secrets but you may find clue to the answers you need in some of the old postings and threads - have a good search around!

Welcome, Archie.

Don't worry about asking questions... that's what we like.

This forum is as much about giving and taking as it is about magic. We all learn from each other.

If you get waylayed and need a dictionary of native TalkMagic terms, just message an admin...

However, here's two native terms to get you started...

1. Aardvark - magician's invisible pet. Also used as a scapegoat word for any gimmick or gaff, or even method who's name is not to be uttered for fear of exposure.

2. Kylie Minogue - Antipodean pop tempstress - her name is used usually to diffuse a situation or to change subject mid-flow. The reasoning is fairly obvious.

Anyway, just off to practice my overhand Aardvark shuffle... OOPS... sorry, not allowed to talk about that... err... anyone seen the July pic on the Official Kylie 2004 calendar ???

;)

Well thank you for the great welcome.

Boywonder - I'm not a member of the Bradford Magic club - I think I have to evolve past the overhand shuffle and glide before I should call any clubs!

We certainly are close together though so perhaps at some point we could meet in Starbucks - I'll buy you ridiculously expensive coffee and you can show me how cards are meant to be shuffled!

Anyone else in West Yorkshire fancy that?...hmmm there is a thread in there some where...

Hi Archie.

Welcome to the boards. Seems like you are settling in nicely.

I'm not a member of the Bradford Magic club - I think I have to evolve past the overhand shuffle and glide before I should call any clubs!

Just out of interest you may be pleasantly surprised as many clubs actively encourage new members of all standards. It is a misconception that they are only there to cater for experienced magicians. Of course I can't speak for Bradford specifically as there are always exceptions, but it may be worth your while contacting them.

:)
