Hey guys. Here's a little flourish that I came up with that is based on the Buck Twins' "Genesis" flourish. Hope you guys like it!

Technically, that is a very impressive little flourish and was very well exectuted. I particularly like the way you've managed to repeat it slow-time for those inclined to learn it for themselves. Well done.

Personally, I'm not one for such fancy fingerwork. At least, nothing quite so blatent as this as I really feel that such "showmanship" detracts a great deal from the "magic" you are trying to create. I can do very few flourishes and the reason is that I've never been particularly inclined to learn. I thrive on the fact that my shuffles are sloppy, my spread is a little crooked and every now and then I drop a card (although, not always by accident), because oft-times is lulls the audience into a sense that I do not have the technical skill of a "proper" magician because my handling of the cards is a little "rough around the edges". This helps disguise the "real" work that they "don't see".

But don't let my personal preference detract from your very accomplished flourish Steve. Not only is it visually impressive but it also gives your fingers a great workout!

Thanks Morgan. I completely agree with you. But personally, I just like to perform more technically demanding tricks. I don't want people to think that I possess some sort of magical power. I find that people tend to remember the complete effect if they think it were truly "magical", but if they kinda think they understand what was going on, then they seem to make up some incredible story as to what they saw. They'd be telling you next time to perform "that trick where the card from to here to there to your pocket to your head to your..." etc. and all you did last time was a simple Ambitious Card routine. I don't know if it's the same when you perform it as a "magical" routine since I don't do that as much.

In most respects, I'm not a huge fan of flourishes and XCM-type stuff - but Stevebo is an exception to that, for me. I've been a fan of his videos for quite some time now. His card work is flawless, and he has no trace of the typical pretentious/arrogant attitude that is more or less a mandatory character trait of this kind of performer (Think De'Vo).

I hope that for your next tutorial, try to have the cam above your shoulder from behind. It's much easier to learn

Rune, I was doing an over the shoulder view for this one, but I found that for this particular flourish, it wasn't the best becuase it was difficult to show the grip of the deck from above .

I'm with Demitri on this one...

Most of the time XCM is pretentious card masturabation.
But when Stevebo does it - it goes further than that, into a beautiful work of art. This video is another example of a well thought out well sculpted work of art

Actually, at the Ipswich Magical Society a few years ago Stevebo showed me a few cuts and flourishes in person - he tried to teach me some but I have all the grace of a three legged stampeding rhino.
So I think I shall probably just watch and enjoy this one rather than try and learn it

Actually stevebo (and anyone else) I wouldnt mind adding another card flourish into my repetiore. As it stands I have only mastered the 2 false counts on the penguin magic dvd which I have looking quite nice (and whilst not flourishes, do look somewhat...flourishy). I wouldnt mind going up to the next stage, but not sure what that is - perhaps some (not too difficult) suggestions?

Umm... false cut wise, this quick false cut by Kevin Ho is quite a quick little move that is lovely to watch and do. I don't remember if you've seen this before, but this is a little false cut I made a long time ago.

I recommend looking at Kevin Ho's sutff. He has quite a good few tutorials up and boy are they good!

I am currently working on this flourish where a card spins on the back of my hand. I will be making a tutorial of this when I finalise the flourish .
