The Effect
What they say: Totally Impromptu. All you need is a ring and rubberband and you’ll be ready to do this visual miracle ANYTIME, ANYWHERE! This 7 phase ring on rubberband routine has it all! Links, unlinks, penetrations, even a visual finger to finger move that will make any audience gasp!

Kris has taken some of the best rubberband moves on the planet and put them together to create a visual masterpiece. Borrow the ring, borrow the rubberband if you need to, just do this routine.

Learn the Ultimate Rubberband and Ring Illusion! No Special Gimmicks.

Cost
14.95$ at www.magicproshop.com

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I'll give it a 3-4 for the rubberband/ring routine... and a 3 for the card routine which is included in the bonus section of the DVD

Review
I have to admit that I am more of a cardie by nature and that I had not experience whatsoever with rubberband and ring routines before I stumbled over this DVD. The promotional video was basically the reason why I decided to buy this nice and straight-forward effect. The routine itself takes about a minute (or even less) to perform, but it includes many jaw-dropping effects during that short time: several ring/rubberband penetrations (which seem impossible when you first see them!), then you see the ring beeing pulled from one finger to another finger as if your fingers were made out of butter. The beautiy of this routine is that you can perform it really with any rubberband at any occation - no set-ups or gimmicks are required.

The DVD is clearly divided into a performance and instructional section. In addition to that there is a "bonus" section containing a three card routine which -if I'm honest- could also have been sold as a seperate DVD! Alone the bonus card routine is worth the money of the disc!!! A signed card is placed in the middle between the four aces in your hand, and after a bit of whoop-di-doo the card suddenly vanished from its middle position and reappears reversed in the middle of the remaining deck on the table. Then the signed card is placed in the middle between the two black aces and after a little shake it visibly reverses to face-up. As finale grande, the signed card is placed in the middle beteen the two red aces and again after a little shake its back color changes from blue to red... a blushing card so to say. Requires only one gimmick which probably every cardie already has anyway...

The shooting quality of the DVD as well as the quality and clarity of Kris' instructions are excellent. The instructional section contains many over-the-shoulder shots and shows how to cover the sleights from the spectator's angle.

The rubberband/ring routine took me about 1,5 hours to learn and I guess another few days of practise to make it performable. What I found out is that it's fairly hard to perform the routine with a small diameter-ring. Hence, I wouldn't rely on a borrowed woman's ring but would go for my own wedding ring during the performance. The bigger the diameter the better... and I DO have big fingers - lucky me ;)

Overall
What can I say... I think I'm into rubberbands now ;) With a deck of cards in your pocket and a rubberband on the wrist you are ready for a good craic at the pub. :)

I can highly recommend this DVD... 9/10

On one of Dan Harlan's Rubber Band DVDs he introduces a deck of cards held by a rubber band and with very fake enthusiasm tell his specs that he's going to do a card trick for them. As they obviously aren't interested he changes the patter to, 'OK a card trick without cards, just using the rubber band' and then does crazy man's handcuffs. All staged and well rehearsed but the idea is good, nobody expects a rubber band routine when they see a deck of cards!

The card routine you outlined bears a striking resemblance to Paul Harris' bizarre vanish into bizarre twist!!

Yep, Kris is giving credit to Paul Harris' sleights after he has explained the trick...

Good stuff, I like the idea of the signed card being the one to change back colour during the twist! Been working on the cros twist recently and still can't get the cards even close to alignment, it's a tricky bu**er.

Before this turns into a Paul arris thread lol! This looks like something I'd be interested in, I only use bands for CMH and band up, and have been looking at some other stuff, but the idea of a dvd just for elastic bands seems a bit boring to me. I dont want to be doing a half hour spot with a few elastic bands, but a short, seven phase routine sounds ideal!

Hi

I like the sound of this.

One you may want to check out is Pinnacle by Russ Niedzwiecki.
Its a very fast quick fire routine but the ring on a band is just to die for. I even fool myself when watching in the mirror. I love band effects. I have always got a few rubbers (Bands that is) in my wallet. Ring on a band is a great follow up when you are asked "show me that again".

I have had great milage out of this. Follow it up with ring on a string and you have a routine that flows very nicely.
