Gears of War

Postby EckoZero » Apr 9th, '08, 21:34

Earlir today, I killed off General Raam on Gears of War on INSANE!!

In the process of killing him I also completed the whole damn game on Insane.

I officially rock at that game...

Any other Gears of War players here?

I'm not a big war-game fan, but I'm learning to like them. I'm thinking of getting Call of Duty 4 for the Wii.

You should check out of Gears of War. Whilst it is technically a war game, its a sci-fi one set in the future.
Think of it as a tactical blood and guts sci fi 3rd person shooter.

Definitely one of my top games of the year

Did you know that there is an easy way to kill General RAAM?

Go up to one of the blocks on the right, and he gets stuck on the other side. Shoot him with those exploding bolt things and eventually he dies. :D

I hope you weren't doing it the hard way 8)

Oh - and yes I have played GOW. Xbox 360 version.

I was unaware of the tip... and ven if I was, i would have done it the hard way  it would be unfair to capitalise on a glitch to beat the game on Insane

Brilliant game though - roll on November 14th!

Apparently there's a patch now.

At least there's still Unreal 3.

Anyone map or mod the unreal engine or other here?

My brother absolutely lives for these games. He loves them and seems to spend every waking hour on his computer; he will quite often stay up all night playing some game and think nothing of it. Not sure his wife is too happy about it, but when he's in his zone you'd have to set the house on fire to get him to snap out of it. He's always going on about COD this and COD that; if I didn't know better, I'd think he had a fish fetish or something.

But hey, we all have our thing. Mine is magic, his is... er, COD.

I would of said that I wasn’t a big gamer, but just before Christmas I treated myself to a xbox 360 for when I didn't have a lot to do.
Spend far too much time on it that I should

I love war games, COD4 I would say was the best game of last year.
I have just got GOW because GOW2 coming out in November, I am about halfway though it. It is a brilliant game.

Anybody play frontlines?

How many xbox live users have we got on the forum?

The rumour mill that is my brother has informed me that Gears of War 2 may possibly be released up to 10 days early...

Xbox schmxbox, I'm jittering with anticipation over GTA 4 at the end of the month, followed in close succession by Wipeout HD. And I've just bought Guitar Hero III, it's all over for my social life.

I would also like to point out at this point that the PS3 rips the ass out of the Xbox. You may argue as much as you like but it's a fact that it's just better and that's that. Tell someone you've got an Xbox and it's like saying you're getting the 18:43 bus later, a bit of inane information that only someone with limited social skills would raise as a conversational topic. On the other hand if you mention your ownership of a PS3 people raise their eyebrows in appreciation and reassess you as more of a man than meets the eye. So that's sorted then.

PS3s are superb!

if you just want to play the same games over and over again, just with slightly prettier graphics...

give me my 360, problems and all any day...

though admittedly, it was a good touch for playstation over the whole blu-ray thing...

PS3 does kick ass!!

COD4 is insane
Skate is excellent
Ninja gaiden Sigma rocks
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is one of the best game ever released

and with GTA4, wipeout, Metal Gear Solid 4, Aliens: Colonial Marines, PS3 God of War, Resistance 2 and Resident Evil 5 all due out this year, man its going to be hard to leave the house!!

Not to mention The Agency, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5, and numerous titles available through the PSN, 2008 and beyond is Sony's time!!!

I'm an Xbox live user. My gamertag is the same as my username, so feel free to add me (just message me and tell me you are from TalkMagic, or I won't know who you are). :D

Sorry what't the PS3 equivalent of Xbox live?
Oh that's right...it doesn't exist on anywhere near the same level.

PS£ (held down the shift key for too long there, but left it because it's apt) is OK if you want to play games on your own and you want to throw money away on a console which looks like a George Foreman grill.

Xbox 360 (IMO) is far better. 8)

edit: My mentalism sense is tingling...it is possible that EckoZero has also played Shadowrun, F.E.A.R., Bioshock, and Rainbow Six Vegas...but it's just a guess. Am I right?

Only Vegas :P

The best thing about GoW I think s that you can get some absolutely amazing moments (more so on co-op but also on single player).
For example, I was playing with my brother and he got shot down on the level where you have to defend the house.
There were 3 grunts, one on the stairs, one on the landing and one hiding behind a sofa on the other side of the balcony - as well as one ANGRY theron guard.
My brother had attempted to take out the grunt on the stairs when he was overwhlemed, so with a bit of ducking, weaving, accurate shooting, pure luck, blindfiring shotguns and throwing grenades, not to mention the good old chainsaw, I cleared the lot of them!!!

Now that was fun. Except then a Boomer walked through the door and shot my brother. So I had to kill the Boomer by myself

Truly epic moments though - and I am thoroughly looking forward to the next installment!
Be interesting to see what exactly the Locust are and hopefully find out why they fight!
