I can look at it tomorrow. I don't need to drive myself crazy thinking about it right now"

not if you spend half the night editing bits for your website and to see were your going wrong by playing it on auto repeat, hours on end. :D

I personally fall asleep very easily after a show especially if it is a good one. Knowing you have done a good job is actually very relaxing.

I think after a while when Lady of Mystery has done a million shows or so the same thing will happen to her. One show will blend into another and she will sleep very well confident in her ability.

Yeah this is called "The path not chosen" (or something) and it is a recognised facet of human personality.

You spend half the night wondering something like "I should've opened with sponges instead of cards" when in fact had you have started with sponges you would be thinking quite the opposite.

The best thing to do is to not beat yourself up about it. Which is easier said then done.
There is some excellent advice on here; Deshi and Discoman suggest setting a time specifically for this type of thought. This is good and usually works for me.
The second is to 'bookmark' the end of this thought-time by doing something completely different - a nice soak perhaps.

Lastly, it helps me to remember that I got the job done, and I did it very well. Despite all of the little things that I feel I could've changed, people were suitably pleased and entertained (and probably wouldn't have noticed anyway  ).

:D

Hi Lady of Mystery

I know exactly what you mean and I have to admit to being another sleep sufferer a lot of the time but particularly after working.

It's also something that doesn;t appear to get any better with time

This happens to me still after the show when people tell me what I did wrong, and I think I must've looked stupid. But what about before a show? Anyone get stomach churning excitement or, since I'm still pretty new to magic, nerves? I remember my first ever show for a bunch of people I felt like I had appendicitis.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I always sleep like a baby after a night performing

So it's mostly crying and bed wetting

Well the bath did the trick well. I got home saturday night with my head buzzing but decided to give a lavendar bath a try. Relaxed me beautifully and then off to bed with a hop pillow and I was gone as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Thanks people :D

I think its pretty common after any event to have trouble sleeping. I replay the days event in my head, same as with a performance. For me the solution is pretty easy. I put in a magic DVD especially a teaching DVD and try to stay awake to watch it. I'm usually asleep before the first explanation.
