10 min table show (no cards)

Postby Figo » Apr 14th, '08, 01:08

hey

ok so i have my big street show sorted it's done it just needs tightning up.

but i've had a thought, some days on the street, big shows ain't gonna work (like tuesdays in newcastle for example *shudder*) so I'm working on a small fast hard hitting show that can be reset very quickly and be done on a table top on the street. now as much as i love cards and coins i feel they are over done and so I'm looking for some non card and coin magic that is still effective but not cheesy and outdated. my finale is going to be coin in bottle so something that i can link to that is perfect. I'm looking for a total of 5 tricks that i can rotate or 2 routines that last 10 minutes and have something happen regularly throughout.

any ideas are very much appreciated

Figo,

I'm surprised. Your website suggests you are a fully experienced working pro. Yet you seek advice for tricks to work on the street :?

Maybe he's just not a street man. Only I just looked at his page, which says he is. Well maybe... I'm not sure...

wow didn't think i'd have to justify myself but there we go. i am a working pro, i do bar and resturant magic and corporate events around the uk and europe i do mostly cards when i do these gigs, I'm also a full time street performer with a 40 min -1hr circle show which i do at festivals around the world (just come back from a 6 month tour of New Zealand) in which i do escapology and comedy,

however i was hoping to ask for a little advice from other magicians as to what tricks they thought might work for a 10 min table show, my card routine that i do at gigs wouldn't work as it can get quite angle sensitive and big shows don't always work when say on a tuesday the city centre isn't very busy so as this is a community thought i would put it out there.

thanks....

I have to recommend sponges here. There is a huge range of effects you can preform with them, and they are extremely visual and can be very hard hitting. I would recommend something like "2 in the hand, 1 in the pocket"

how about some sponges? They always go down very well, silks too can be very good and maybe ropes?

If your not wanting coin effects but finishing with coin in bottle, then thats a bit odd? Gambling routines like the shell and pea game may work well, though their not too visual to attract initial attention I wouldnt have thought?

I would go with sponges some big rope things and cups and balls or chop cup.
Maybe a three card monte...it is a street performance! :)

I'd agree with the Alkhemist as you've mentionned table show in the title.

You should definately go for at least a chop cup routine if not a cups and balls routine.

I also agree with LoMster and go with some sponges.

Good luck!

Chop Cup routine will work very well.

I just pulled out my old worlds greatest magic buy the worlds greatest performers DVD (On Chop Cups as if i need to say). Not watched it for a while and completely forgot about David Regals "My Best Freind" Routine.

It takes away the old is the ball in my pocket or under the cup situation. Infact I have set myself up with this now. I cant belive I forgot it.

It would suit a quick fire street routine and it is so different.

Check it out.

I would also have suggested chop cup and sponges first. Perhaps spoon/fork bending too, beginning with some loops work?
