Sponge trick?

Postby pboparis » Apr 15th, '08, 20:43

At school when I play around with sponge balls people have great reactions usually they say OH MY GOD or HOW D"YOU DO THAT! So I was thinking routines with sponges there are and I could only find three which are:

- Ball to hand (you have two balls you put one in your hand and give the other one to the spectator when he opens his hand he has two and I have none

- Multiplying Sponge Balls (I don't own, people say it is hard but I'll buy it to see)

- 2 in hand one in pocket (you have three palls you place one ball in your pocket one in your hand and in result you have three, you do it one more time, to finish you put one in pocket, one in hand one in pocket and this time there are none)

- I don't know the title (you place two balls in the spectator's hand and when they open their hand there are a lot more)

So do you know any other tricks with sponges???

People will suggest the Sponge Toolbox or whatever it is, but not having that one I wont pass comment.
I will suggest Jay Sankey's Earplugs though... I think there's three or four routines on there. Plus loads of moves, enough to make a routine from (I did! :D ) - and a Greg Wilson one, I think it's called On The Spot has a sponge napkin routine. It uses napkins instead of sponges, but the thinking comes across beautifully when applied to actual sponge balls.

There's a couple of appearances in there that I would never have thought up.

How appropriate! You actually have four.

- Multiplying Sponge Balls (I don't own, people say it is hard but I'll buy it to see)

Nonsense. Even I can do it, but it's not very suitable for use round school.

- I don't know the title (you place two balls in the spectator's hand and when they open their hand there are a lot more)

The original version (I think) was multiball by Dr Jaks. Eugene Burger has a slightly different version, with a different method.

One thing that slightly appalled me when I viewed the 'World's Greatest Magic' sponge ball DVD was how very similar so many magicians' sponge routines are. Many of the ones shown were all but identical, except perhaps for the ending.

Other routines are:

Kenton Knepper's one in 'Klose-Up and Unpublished', which includes a ball that keeps appearing under a mug.

Chris Priest's 'Protons' (similar in some respects to what you've already mentioned, but with some nice touches).

'Parabox', a Tenyo trick, with which I've had great reactions. One person remembered me doing that trick for several years.

There's also the AG Sponge Balls (Albert Goshman's signature sponge ball routine).

And another one Magic by Gosh makes where the different coloured balls all end up making one giant, multi-coloured ball. Can anyone remember what that's called?

There are also loads of routines that are basically two in the hand, one in the pocket, or one ball becoming two in the spectator's hands, that has a surprise ending - giants sponge ball, sponge bunny, sponge numbers, sponge words, sponge...well, another thing not suitable for school. :)

I purchased Spongeball Toolbox recently and it's the best buy I've made in a long time and I've learnt so much from watching the DVD and playing around with my sponge balls (don't even think about it).

Check out the TM review. Seriously, you should get this. You get so much for your £15; I almost felt guilty that it was so cheap. (Almost). :D

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking but Mark Wilson's CCIM has a good routine that could most probably be broken down into something sutible? sorry if useless :?

oh there's so much that you can do with sponge balls. Colour changes, vanishes, transformations, transpositions to name just a few.

The sponge ball toolkit is a great DVD and will teach you lots of ideas, the routine in Mark Wilson's book is a very good one. One of my routines is roughly based on that on. Also the Worlds Greatest Magic Sponge Ball DVD is very good too.

Multiplying balls can be a very good and really isn't all that difficult.

Ah the old faithful sponge balls. I'm glad to see that even tho your at school your using them as a lot of younger people see them as "dated".

I've got the sponge ball toolkit and I'd say to definitely get it. It gives you plenty for new ideas. I personally love the benson bowl routine among many others.

Mark Wilson's also has a nice routine in it which has some things the tool kit doesn't. Although in the book it is mainly only sponge balls you use. The tool kit has a wider range of uses with gimmicks and other shapes and sizes of sponge.

Bottom line- get the tool kit and Mark Wilson's book. That will give you plenty of material for a long time.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.
